Citi: Making a Difference on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation, South DakotaRockyford Community School, a new and much improved, learning environment, will provide new classrooms to 500 Pre-K to 8th grade students starting with the 2012-2013 school year.
Located 56 miles from Rapid City and 28 miles north of Manderson on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation, Rockyford Community School, part of the Shannon County School District, will enjoy a $17 million addition that includes a new gymnasium, 13 new classrooms, an updated kitchen and multifunctional areas.
Funding for the school was made through a partnership between Citi Community Capital, Citi's community development lending and investing group, and Dakotas America, a community development group working in rural, highly distressed low-income communities.

The Whittier Street Health Center, a 75-year-old, nonprofit community health clinic in the Roxbury neighborhood of Boston, involved the new construction of a six-story, 78,900-square-foot community health facility. Enterprise provided $15 million in New Markets Tax Credit (NMTC) allocation to the project.
The new facility replaces 33,000 square-feet of leased space in the same neighborhood and allows Whittier to serve a larger number of patients and expands the types of services offered. The project nearly doubles the size of Whittier's clinical operations and includes complementary health services in partnership with the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, the Whittier Pharmacy and a physical therapy office.
Genesis LA Spotlight Series - Elysian Valley Creative Campus
My Home, Mi CasaThrough a partnership with Jovenes Inc., Genesis LA is purchasing scattered site residential properties in East LA to form a portfolio of more than 40 supportive housing units for at-risk young adults. This project is embarking on a new affordable housing model, which includes no public capital and no operating subsidy. The housing will serve homeless and very low-income youth between the ages of 18 and 25, and will include a unique "equity-share" program that will add to the financial self-sufficiency of the youth.
Street Squash, a New Markets Tax Credit Success StoryStreetSquash, located in Harlem, is an innovative and successful urban youth enrichment program that was founded in 1999. StreetSquash combines academic activities, college preparation, community service, mentoring, and squash for boys and girls ages 9-18 to help them graduate from high school and move on to active and productive lives.
Thanks to $6.5 million in NMTC financing provided by HEDC New Markets, Inc., StreetSquash expanded into a 19,000 square foot facility in Harlem, NY in November 2008. The new facility has allowed StreetSquash to serve more than 750 Harlem public school children each year, providing 4 classrooms and a library, as well as 8 squash courts, a workout area, locker rooms, and administrative offices. StreetSquash was able to expand its after-school program to serve more 160 children annually; provide College Prep Program to 100 students annually; expand the Summer Discovery and Youth Employment Program to serve over 300 students annually; create an Alumni Outreach Program for nearly 100 high school graduates; and launch the Physical Education for Public Schools Program that serves over 750 students annually through daytime squash instruction gym programs.
Now that it has the physical capacity to serve more students, the organization added six full-time positions and fifteen part-time positions − two of which are filled by parents who live in the neighborhood. StreetSquash also doubled its volunteer base to 100 so that it can serve more students. Outside of organizational growth, the new building has increased StreetSquash’s efficiency, bolstered the organization’s external credibility, encouraged cohesion and community building, and improved students’ experiences of their physical surroundings. By investing in a center that expands operations and improves participants’ experiences, StreetSquash serves as a true community asset.

Cincinnatis Al. Neyer, Inc. to start construction on $37 million adaptive reuse/renovation of historic landmark April 2010
Cincinnati, Ohio (April 13, 2010) It takes nine partnering organizations, $37 million and a lot of cooperation and perseverance to re-adapt an iconic 1920s hotel as an office anchor for an urban neighborhoods revitalization efforts. Especially in this economy.
But, in Cincinnati, Ohio the project and investor teams have aligned for the 2010 construction start that transforms the former Vernon Manor hotel, where President John F. Kennedy and the Beatles once stayed, into office space for world-renowned Cincinnati Childrens Hospitals continuing growth.
The hotel sits in the heart of a central Cincinnati neighborhood called Avondale, which has struggled with revitalization efforts.
City of Cincinnati Mayor Mark Mallory and City Manager Milton Dohoney, Jr. joined State of Ohio Regional Director Brewster Rhoads and Cincinnati Childrens Hospital Medical Center President and CEO Michael Fisher April 13 in a public celebration of the redevelopment team, schedule, and financing in place.
The new Vernon Manor offices will accommodate more than 600 employees from Cincinnati Childrens, creating new capacity for the medical center to expand at other locations, including its main campus. Cincinnati Childrens Hospital Medical Center has signed a 17-year lease.
The repurposing of the Vernon Manor follows our GO Cincinnati strategy, which focuses on developing the life sciences and health care sectors that are creating significant job growth in the next 10 years, according to Cincinnati Mayor Mark Mallory.
Al. Neyer will start renovation work on the 171,000 square-foot, seven-story building this month. Work on a 440-car parking garage begins July 2010. City Manager Milton Dohoney, Jr., said the retained jobs from Cincinnati Childrens contribute $600,000 in annual earnings tax revenue, while the new jobs created from this expansion are likely to contribute over $800,000.
The City of Cincinnati and State of Ohio partnered on a financial assistance package worth $7.1 million to the redevelopment, including a $10.5 million public parking garage. This agreement has the City purchasing and owning the parking garage for 25 years, utilizing tax-increment financing through the Corryville neighborhood. State of Ohio has approved $7.5 million in loans that will be used to finance the garage construction as the city pays for the garage over the 25-year period. Al. Neyer will operate and manage the garage.
Al. Neyer, Inc. Executive Vice President Laura Brunner said garnering state, city and community support early on for the complex redevelopment, working with tenant Cincinnati Childrens Hospital Medical Center on project goals, and successfully pitching project ownership to local African-American investment leadership group REEAAL, LLC., are accomplishments that will transcend the initial success of this project for decades to come.This project is a key economic development project that will both be an anchor in the Avondale community and expand the capabilities of Cincinnati Childrens Hospital, which means more jobs, according to Mayor Mark Mallory. It also fits into our GO Cincinnati economic development strategy as a employment sector that will be growing over the next several years.

TRF Project Profile: The Green SchoolIn 2008, The Reinvestment Fund (TRF -- http://www.trfund.com) helped finance the acquisition and renovation of a former parochial school building to house The Green School of Baltimore, an elementary charter school that uses the environment and community as a context for learning.
TRF's 2008 financing included New Markets Tax Credit eligible capital and a TRF energy loan, which supported energy measures which are expected to lower long-term facility operating costs and perfectly aligns with the Green School's focus on cultivating healthy, active and environmentally conscious students. The facility has a garden where students learn not only how to plant and care for fresh produce but also how to cook delicious, healthy meals that the whole family can enjoy.
In their new space, The Green School has grown to serve 150 elementary students grades K-5 now with a full outdoor playground area and indoor physical education room to help the school continue to keep students active.
Greater Kansas City LISC: The Children's Campus of Kansas CityThe Children's Campus of Kansas City is a multi-use facility that will house service agencies that support families and children. Greater KC LISC and LISC's New Markets Support Company provided $14 million in New Markets Tax Credit to the project. It will open in early 2010.
