U.S. Diplomatic Security Service (documentary)The U.S. Diplomatic Security Service (DSS or DS) is the federal law enforcement arm of the United States Department of State. The majority of its Special Agents are members of the Foreign Service and American federal law enforcement officers at the same time, making them unique from other federal law enforcement agencies, most of which are in the civil service. Both DSS and DS, are used interchangeably inside and outside the State Department to refer to Diplomatic Security. The Diplomatic Security Service is the federal law enforcement agency, within the State Department, primarily made up of U.S. federal law enforcement agents mandated to serve overseas and domestically. DS agents can only serve 6 years in a domestic position at a time - the rest must be served overseas in 1-3 year blocks. Therefore, DS is the most widely represented U.S. law enforcement agency in the world.

The economic transformation of China has been electrifying. But with Europe teetering and the US plodding, can the biggest tiger of all keep on roaring? China's super-rich certainly think they can.
Outside a private Beijing nightclub Porsches, Maseratis and Ferraris compete for space. Inside the club is packed with the children of China's super-rich enjoying a 'palace' themed party. China now has almost a million millionaires, six hundred billionaires, and the numbers keep growing at a staggering rate. As a reporter for the Hurun Report rich-list points out, they are a force to be reckoned with: "certainly we need to be aware of and understand this group." Even more striking is the bravado of China's super-rich, who feel that they can keep going from strength to strength. "I met an entrepreneur last week who said that if all goes to plan, in ten years time his business will be ten times the size it is now". The focus is certainly on quick growth. Current projections say that in ten years time half the world's billionaires will come from China. While there are warnings signs that the economic woes of Europe and the US will hit China, China's super-rich don't seem concerned. For some the hope is that the Chinese market will pick up the slack. For others, who have only known the good times, anything else is unthinkable: "if I have any spare money I buy sports cars."

Kim Dotcom claims he wants to protect internet privacy. The US says he's the internet's biggest pirate. This report meets the man, as the future of the internet and $500m in copyright claims hang in the balance.
This remarkable footage captures the special forces raid on Kim Dotcom's house last year. His lawyer called it: "A political contract hit..." So why are the US and now the New Zealand government so desperate to get the self-styled Dotcom? The flamboyant 39-year-old tycoon says he just makes a good scapegoat. The United States want him extradited on copyright, money laundering and racketeering charges over his now defunct file-sharing website, Megaupload. Before being shut down, it's alleged the site netted US$175 million and cost copyright owners US$500 million. But now Kim's launching a new one, Mega. The US believes that it will be another site hosting copyright theft. Kim claims it will change the internet, by protecting online privacy. "The US is spending billions on these spy clouds where they basically capture all internet traffic, all the time. Mega is a mission to give people their rights to privacy back."

Ain't too proud to Beg: The city of Motown and big cars is turning into an industrial wasteland. As General Motors sinks to its knees, this story asks can the fortunes of the US car industry still be turned around?
Motown legend Martha Reeves believes there's hope for Detroit. 'The Motown mood is a good time and a party. There's sunshine in the music' she says. Yet driving through the city a different story is told - derelict buildings, deserted streets and abandoned factories. 'That's something you feel in your stomach every day'. At the centre of it all is the iconic General Motors empire. 'There were 17000 people when it started' says a former employee 'it's gone down to 16000.' Thousands like him grieve for the company as for a loved one. The company's lack of innovation may be to blame. "When there was a situation where you could do something that was hard or do the minimum amount, they always took the latter path' says former GM executive, Robert Kleinbaum. With more competitive, greener products in the pipeline, GM still believes in its future. 'We are two, three years ahead. We can build very compelling vehicles'. But under the surface plans to file for bankruptcy are being put in motion. 'Detroit has always been the industrial base. We can't just give it all away' says long-time resident DJ Dick. It seems that the days of the classic Pontiac are truly over.

Detroit was once the symbol of America's industrial power; the birthplace of Ford, the assembly line and the home of GM. But now it feels more like a ghost town littered with abandoned buildings.
In 1913 Detroit was booming but when the Great Depression hit, this abruptly ended. Between 2006 and 2008 four of GM's plants in Michigan closed, and more than 15,000 are homeless in the city. "There's no work in Michigan... all you see is vacant houses" explains one homeless resident. As industries move to areas with cheaper labour, former assembly line workers and buildings are left useless.

MEDIA : the element which is the natural habitat of an organism; plural form of the word 'medium'.
The word 'media', like 'data', for example, is the plural form of a word borrowed directly from Latin. The singular, 'medium', developed the meaning "an intervening agency, means, or instrument" and was first applied to newspapers two centuries ago. In the 1920s, a decade much similar to ours, and like ours, preceding terrible events, the word 'media' began to appear as a singular collective noun, sometimes with the plural 'medias'.

Rosalind Franklin and Maurice Wilkins were trying to identify the structure by studying X-ray diffractions of the DNA molecule. But Jim Watson and Francis Crick studied a little bit of everything -- including, to the consternation of some, the work of their competitors. A few have gone so far as to accuse Watson of stealing Franklin's X-ray work.
In any case, Waston and Crick's inquisitive working style ultimately allowed them to determine the DNA structure first, in 1953 -- an achievement that led to their Nobel Prize in 1962. Meanwhile, Franklin passed away in 1958 from cancer.
Richard Dawkins - Sex, Death and the Meaning of Life - Part 3: The Meaning of Life [+Subs]Why does an atheist bother to get up in the morning?
That's the question Richard Dawkins seeks to answer as he continues his exploration of the big questions of life in a world shaking off religious faith.
In a journey that takes him from the casinos of Las Vegas to Buddhist monasteries in the foothills of the Himalayas, Richard Dawkins examines how both religious and non-religious people struggle to find meaning in their lives.
He looks at how our existence is ruled by chance, meeting people whose fate was to be born into extreme poverty in India's slums and the survivors of a natural disaster in Joplin, Missouri, a city ripped apart in 2011 by a tornado on a random course.
In the face of what appears to be a blindly indifferent universe, Dawkins argues that we each have to forge our own sense of meaning.
He meets the comedian Ricky Gervais, an atheist since the age of seven, for whom meaning comes through doing something creative.
For Dawkins, it is the awe and wonder in scientific enquiry - from the human genome to the quest for the Higgs Boson - that get him up in the morning.

If Alien exist where do they live and how do they live?
Scientists say a world that's 490 light-years away qualifies as the first confirmed Earth-sized exoplanet that could sustain life as we know it — but in an environment like nothing we've ever seen.
The planet, known as Kepler-186f, is "more of an Earth cousin than an Earth twin," Elisa Quintana, an astronomer at the SETI Institute at NASA Ames Research Center, told the journal Science. Quintana is the lead author of a report on the planet published by Science this week.
"This discovery does confirm that Earth-sized planets do exist in the habitable zones of other stars," Quintana said during a Thursday news briefing at NASA Headquarters.
Kepler-186f goes around an M-type dwarf star that's smaller and cooler than our sun. But it orbits much closer to its parent star than Earth does, within what would be Mercury's orbit in our own solar system. Those two factors combine to produce an environment that could allow for liquid water on the surface, assuming that the planet had a heat-trapping atmosphere.
"The star, to our eyes, would look slightly orange-y," about a third again as big as our sun but only a third as bright, said co-author Thomas Barclay, a staff scientist for NASA's Kepler mission who is also affiliated with NASA and the Bay Area Environmental Research Institute. At midday, Kepler-186f's landscape might look similar to what we see on Earth an hour before sunset, he told NBC News.
Or it might not: If the planet lacked an atmosphere to retain and redistribute its sun's warmth, it would be a cold, dry, lifeless world.
Kepler-186f probably rates as the most potentially Earthlike planet discovered so far, said Jim Kasting, a geoscientist at Penn State University who did not play a role in the Science study. But he told NBC News that it's still "less likely to be habitable than planets around more sunlike stars." Even better prospects for alien habitability might well be identified in the months and years to come.
How the world was found
Kepler-186f is just the latest discovery to be pulled out of terabytes' worth of data collected by the Kepler mission. Before it went on the fritz last year, the Kepler space telescope stared at more than 150,000 stars in a patch of sky, looking for the telltale dimming of starlight as planets passed over the stars' disks. Nearly 1,000 exoplanets have been confirmed using Kepler data, and almost 3,000 more candidates are still awaiting confirmation.
It takes years of observation to confirm the pattern of dimming and brightening that's associated with alien planets, particularly if the planets are small and far from their parent stars. In February, astronomers reported that at least four worlds circled the dwarf star known as Kepler-186 or KOI-571. In this week's Science paper, Quintana and her colleagues confirm the existence of Kepler-186f as the fifth and outermost world.
They report that Kepler-186f is about 10 percent wider than Earth, tracing a 130-day orbit around its sun at a mean distance of 0.35 astronomical units. (An astronomical unit is the distance between Earth and our sun, which is 93 million miles or 150 million kilometers.) That would put Kepler-186f on the cooler, outer side of the star's habitable zone — the range of orbital distances where liquid water could exist on a planet's surface.
Astronomers have confirmed the existence of other planets in their stars' habitable zone, but those prospects are super-Earth-size. Smaller habitable-zone candidates also have been found, but they have yet to be confirmed as planets.
Barclay said Kepler-186f was particularly promising because it's less than 1.5 times the size of Earth. Planets in that size range are more likely to be rocky with a thinner atmosphere, like Earth, Mars and Venus. But worlds exceeding that size stand a better chance of retaining a thick atmosphere of hydrogen and helium, like the giant planet Neptune.
"While those planets also could be rocky, they don't remind us of home," Barclay said.
Could we actually detect signs of life on Kepler-186f? That's a tough one. The astronomers behind the discovery acknowledge that the planet might be just too far away for follow-up studies. The SETI Institute has been searching for radio signals from the Kepler-186 system over a wide frequency range (1 to 10 GHz), but so far nothing has been detected.

Biggest Mysteries of Mars
End of the earth and new Life on Mars
http://www.advexon.com
Mars was known as the "fire star" to ancient Chinese astronomers, and scientists are still burning with questions regarding the Red Planet. Even after dozens of spacecraft have been sent to Mars, much remains unknown about that world. Here are some of the biggest unsolved mysteries we have about Mars.
Why does Mars have two faces?
Scientists have been puzzling over the differences between the two sides of Mars for decades. The northern hemisphere of the planet is smooth and low — it is among the flattest, smoothest places in the solar system, potentially created by water that once flowed across the Martian surface.
Meanwhile, the southern half of the Martian surface is rough and heavily cratered, and about 2.5 miles to 5 miles (4 km to 8 km) higher in elevation than the northern basin. Recent evidence suggests the vast disparity seen between the northern and southern halves of the planet was caused by a giant space rock smacking into Mars long ago.
Still, there are ways to produce methane without life, such as volcanic activity. ESA's ExoMars spacecraft planned for launch in 2016 will study the chemical composition of Mars' atmosphere to learn more about this methane.
Does liquid water run on the surface of Mars now?
Although large amounts of evidence suggest that liquid water once ran on the surface of Mars, it remains an open question as to whether or not it occasionally flows on the face of the Red Planet now. The planet's atmospheric pressure is too low, at about 1/100th of Earth's, for liquid water to last on the surface. However, dark, narrow lines seen on Martian slopes hint that saltwater could be running down them every spring.
Were there oceans on Mars?
Numerous missions to Mars have revealed a host of features on the Red Planet that suggest it was once warm enough for liquid water to run across its surface. These features include what appear to be vast oceans, valley networks, river deltas and minerals that required water to form.
Nevertheless, astronauts seem eager to find out. For example, this year six volunteers lived in a pretend spacecraft for nearly a year and a half in the so-called Mars500 project, the longest spaceflight simulation ever conducted, aimed at replicating a manned mission to Mars from beginning to end. There are even numerous volunteers for a one-way trip to the Red Planet. Tiny rock-eating microbes could mine precious extraterrestrial resources from Mars and pave the way for the first human colonists, and farmers could grow crops on its surface. The mystery as to whether or not humans will ever go to Mars may rest largely on whether or not the powers-that-be can be convinced to go there.

Universe: Beyond the Millennium - Alien Life"Universe: Beyond the Millennium" is a television series observing astronomical phenomena, research, and theories on the universe and its origins.
Narrated by John Hurt.
The documentary premiered in 1999 and presents an overview of the universe as humans understood it at that time, and how we think it will evolve in the next millennium. Using 3D computer generated graphics, the series features animated sequences that offer insight into the Big Bang theory and the anatomy of the sun.
"Alien Life", when NASA scientists found a lump of rock from Mars with microscopic fossils in it, the search for extraterrestrial life beyond our own became a credible objective. Researchers and scientists from SETI (Search for Extra-Terrestrial Intelligence) have spent decades trying to determine how an alien life force would contact us and if one does, how we would reply.
At the start of a new millennium we're about to embark on the greatest adventure of all time. Five hundred million miles from Earth, a spacecraft will land on Jupiter's icy moon, Europa. It's mission, to search for alien life. As we reach out across the galaxy, our spacecraft will explore the most extreme environments to answer the ultimate question, are we alone?

True Story I - The Philippines: Preserving a Culture of Lifehttp://www.hli.org/thephilippines
"The Philippines: Preserving a Culture of Life" is a story of the struggle for faith and family. It is Part I of Human Life International's True Stories documentary series.
The pro-life values of the Philippines have been under assault for many years by Western pro-abortion advocates trying to pass the anti-life Reproductive Health (RH) Bill. After many failed attempts, the peddlers of the culture of death are now closer than ever to passing the RH Bill, and fundamentally changing the Philippines forever. (NOTE: In December 2012, the Congress of the Philippines finally passed the destructive RH Bill and it was signed into law by President Beningno Aquino. We remain engaged with our Filipino brothers and sisters as the battle for life and family enters this new stage. Although the documentary is outdated on this point, the insights it contains remain true, as do its warnings for the future of the Philippines if the provisions of the bill are fully realized and it is not reversed.)

Australia the first Four Billion Years - Life ExplodesAustralia: First 4 Billion Years
2 Life Explodes
How did life storm the beaches and dominate planet Earth? Ancient Australian fossils offer clues in "Life Explodes." Half a billion years ago, Australia was still part of the super-continent Gondwana. The oceans were teeming with weird and wonderful animals, but the world above the waves remained an almost lifeless wasteland. All that was about to change, though. Host Richard Smith introduces Earth's forgotten pioneers: the scuttling arthropod armies that invaded the shores and the waves of green revolutionaries whose battle for the light pushed plant life across the face of a barren continent. Evolution continued underwater as well, with armor-plated fish experimenting with teeth, jaws, sex, and lungs. NOVA's prehistoric adventure continues with four-legged animals walking onto dry land—and the planet poised for disaster.

Testimony-Former White Supremacist Skin Head Gives Life to Jesus & radically changes! The reason we value truth, accept the scientific method, advocate democracy over communism and MUCH more is because of their pragmatic value for life.
Billions of lives have been change thru the Bible, Judaism and Christianity. You could not be watching this video and many would not even be literate or have much freedom if it weren't for the impact of Christianity on the world. Why? Christianity built most human rights, the foundations and most branches of science, public education, medical care and more. These all depend HEAVILY on the principles in the Bible which derive from God and Israelis/Christians following them. Now most secular people have at least some Christian values.
HOW CHRISTIANITY CHANGED THE WORLD
Every person on the planet should read this book to understand that the origin of many positive values, nearly all human rights (ranging from women's rights to abolition to economic rights and more), science/technology, education, democracy, labor rights etc. just could not exist without Christianity.
www.amazon.com/Christianity-Changed-World-Alvin-Schmidt/dp/0310264499
Here's a well done summary of the book, showing how most of the best modern values, including secular values, were largely if not entirely derived from Christianity.
http://www.christianbooksummaries.com/library/v3/cbs0334.pdf
CHRISTIANITY PIONEERED MOST HUMAN RIGHTS BECAUSE OF THE BIBLE & JESUS (ancient people weren't very advanced human rights, esp. internationally):
Christianity pioneered most human rights because other ancient peoples, as Dr. Rene Girard of Stanford & others point out, didn't have much of a concept of human rights or equality. This was because most ancient cultures followed concepts like:
**MIGHT MAKES RIGHT: Whoever was strongest made the rules.
**PEOPLE ARE PAWNS: The powerful used the powerless no different from beasts of burden. Emperor Chin enslaved millions to build the Great Wall of China.
**KARMA & FATE—What people get is punishment from gods..so don't interfere.
**THE KING IS THE HIGHEST AUTHORITY: Kings were gods, so the condition of the oppressed couldn't be questioned.
**STATE GLORY/WAR IS A HOBBY: War was a hobby of kings. The king's main job was to increase state glory & war. The rights of the victims didn't matter at all.
RENE GIRARD & GIL BAILIE'S THESIS ON THE BIBLE & HUMAN RIGHTS
"Rene Girard was a secularist French philosopher & anthropologist who taught at Stanford for ~14 years until his retirement. He became fascinated with the fact that in modern times disenfranchised people gain a sort of moral authority & noted that in the last couple centuries human rights have increased exponentially. It was surprising because he could find nothing similar in ancient literature. Victors, not the marginalized, wrote history, & the myths from Babylon, Greece & other places celebrated strong heroes, & ignored the rights of the losers/weak if they mentioned them at all. In his research, he traced this phenomenon back to the historical figure of Jesus.
It struck Girard that Jesus' story was radically different from every heroic story of its time. Jesus chose poverty & disgrace, spent his infancy as a refugee, lived in a minority race under a harsh regime & died as a prisoner. From the very beginning, Jesus took the side of the underdog: the poor, the oppressed, the sick, the "marginalied". His crucifixion, Girard concluded, introduced a new plot to history: the victim becomes the hero by being a victim which introduced a student of Girard's called "the most sweeping historical revolution in the world, namely, the emergence of an empathy for victims."
Girard contends that Jesus' life & death brought forth a new stream in history, one that undermines injustice. It may take centuries for that stream to erode a hard bank of oppression, as it did with slavery, & sometimes that stream has to confront Christians who have gotten corrupt following the morals of the society of their time instead of God's way. To the consternation of his secular colleagues, Girard eventually converted to Christianity for this & other reasons.

The Bible's attitude towards the underclass was this: The way you treat the people in trouble is the same way you are treating God. All are equal in Jesus, so you need to care about these people as if they are brothers & sisters & children of God the same as you are. It was because of sentiments like these that Christianity "turned the world upside down (with love)" as one of their critics put it.
What you use science for depends mostly on your value system & priorities in life. If your priorities are like Norman Borlaug's or Florence Nightingale's, then great good results. If they are otherwise, some good may or may not result, but science will just be a tool of a selfish dictator.

This was a great example because during the whole time she was being closely monitored.

Origin of Life - Abiogenesis 1of5Intelligent Design and Young Earth Creationist organisations often misrepresent evolution by stating that it does not explain the origin of life. This is a dishonest tactic. Of course the theory of evolution doesn't explain the origin of life. It is not supposed to. The origin of life or abiogenesis is within the field of chemistry not biology. Evolution explains the diversity of life within the field of biology not chemistry.

The World of PANDORA - Life After EarthThe World of PANDORA - Life After Earth
http://www.advexon.com
Pandora is the idyllic blue world featured in the movie Avatar. Its location is a real place: Alpha Centauri, the nearest star to our Sun and the most likely destination for our first journey beyond the solar system.
Remarkably, it's anti-matter, the science fiction fuel of choice that could take us there. Normally, it's only created in powerful jets that roar out of black holes. We can now produce small quantities in Earth-bound particle colliders. Will we journey out only to plunder other worlds? Or will we come in peace? The answer may depend on how we see Earth at that time in the distant future.
The year is 2154. Our planet has been ruined by environmental catastrophe. In the movie Avatar, greedy prospectors from Earth descend on the world of an innocent hunter-gatherer people called the Na'vi.
Their home is a lush moon far beyond our solar system called Pandora. Could such a place exist? And could our technology... and our appetite for exploration... one day send us hurtling out to reach it?
In fact, the supposed site of this fictional solar system is one of our most likely interstellar targets, until a better destination turns up. Pandora orbits a fictional gas planet called Polyphemus. Its home is a real place... Alpha Centauri... the brightest star in the southern constellation of Centaurus.
At 4.37 light years away, it's part of the closest star system to our sun. Alpha Centauri is actually two stars, A and B, one slightly larger and more luminous than our own sun, the other slightly smaller.
The two stars orbit one other, swinging in as close as Saturn is to our Sun... then back out to the distance of Pluto. This means that any outer planets in this system... anything beyond, say, the orbit of Mars... would likely have been pulled away by the companion and flung out into space.
For this reason, Alpha Centauri was not high on planet hunters' lists... until they began studying a star 45 light years away called "Gamma Cephei." It has a small companion star that goes around it every 76 years. Now, it seems... it also has at least one planet.
That world is about the size of Jupiter, and it has planet hunters excited. Perhaps two-thirds of all the stars in our galaxy are in so-called binary relationships. That means there could be many more planets in our galaxy that astronomers once assumed.
At least three teams are now conducting long-term studies of Alpha Centauri... searching for slight wobbles in the light of each companion star that could indicate the presence of planets. If they find a planet that passes in front of one of the stars, astronomers will begin intensive studies to find out what it's like.
One of their most promising tools will be the James Webb Space Telescope, scheduled for launch in 2014 or 2015. From a position a million miles away from Earth, it will deploy a sun shield the size of a tennis court, and a mirror over 21 feet wide. The largest space telescope ever built, it will offer an extraordinary new window into potential solar systems like Alpha Centauri.
With its infrared light detectors, this telescope will be able to discern the chemical composition of a planet's atmosphere... and perhaps whether it harbors a moon like Pandora.
One prominent planet hunter predicted that if a habitable world is found at Alpha Centauri, the planning for a space mission would begin immediately. Here's that star duo as seen by the Cassini spacecraft just above the rings of Saturn.
To actually get to this pair of stairs, you have to travel as far as the orbit of Saturn, then go another 30,000 times further. Put another way, if the distance to Alpha Centauri is the equivalent of New York to Chicago, then Saturn would be just... one meter away.
So far, the immense distances of space have not stopped us from launching missions into deep space. In 1977, the twin Voyager spacecraft were each sent on their way aboard Titan 3 Centaur rockets. After a series of gravitational assists from the giant outer planets, the spacecraft are now flying out of the solar system at about 40,000 miles per hour.
They are moving so quickly that they could whip around the Earth in just 45 minutes, twice as fast as the International Space Station. Voyager I has now traveled over 110 astronomical units. That's 110 times the distance from Earth to the Sun... or about 10 billion miles. But don't hold your breath.
If it was headed in the right direction, it would need another 73,000 years to travel the 273,000 astronomical units to Alpha Centauri. When it comes to space travel, we've yet to realize the dream forged by rocketeers a century ago.

Life in the Universe #1: Just on Earth, or Everywhere? This is the first episode of a series on life in the universe. Looking for life in the universe isn't like looking for your car keys. It's hard to know where to even start. The best place to start is probably by NOT trying to find alien civilizations, but rather ANY kind of life we can.
The problem is, civilizations live and die in the blink of an eye compared to the lifecycles stars. They could come and go and we'd never know it.

Call of Life - TrailerAvailable from: http://www.videoproject.com/calloflife.html
Narrated by Peter Coyote
Call of Life is the first feature-length documentary to fully investigate the growing threat posed by the rapid and massive loss of biodiversity on the planet. Featuring leading scientists, social scientists, environmentalists and others, the film explores the scope, the causes, and the predicted global impact of a mass extinction occurring on a scale not seen since the disappearance of the dinosaurs 65 million years ago.
If current trends continue, scientists warn that half or more of all plant and animal species on Earth will become extinct within the next few decades. Entirely caused by human activities, this contemporary mass extinction is disrupting and destroying the complex, interconnected biological systems that support life on earth.
Through interviews with eminent biologists and ecologists, the film examines the primary drivers of species loss: habitat destruction, global warming, pollution, and invasive species, all compounded by the expanding human population and our consumption patterns.
Call of Life tells the story not only of a crisis in nature, but also in human nature. In interviews with psychologists, anthropologists, and historians, the film looks beyond the immediate causes of the mass extinction to consider how cultural and economic myths, along with deep-seated behavioral patterns have allowed this crisis to develop, continue to reinforce it, and even determine our response to it.
Call of Life examines the collective and individual choices we have before us, and how the decisions we make -- or fail to make -- in the next decade may affect the habitability of Earth possibly for millions of years to come.
Among the scientists and other authorities featured in the film are:
• Richard Leakey, famed paleonanthropologist and author of The Sixth Extinction
• Norman Myers, renowned Oxford University authority on biodiversity, author of The Sinking Ark
• Stuart Pimm, Chair of Conservation Ecology at Duke University, author of A Scientist Audits the Earth
• Gretchen Daly, Director of the Stanford Center for Conservation Biology, author of The New Economy of Nature

The Birth of the Earth & Beginning of Life on EarthThe Birth of the Earth:
The Earth is a tiny planet in a vast universe. The universe is made up of billions of stars and planets and enormous clouds of gas, all separated by huge empty spaces.
Beginning of Life on Earth:
Life on Earth began in the seas. For millions of years the Earth''s surface was scorched by harmful ultraviolet rays from sun and there was almost no life on land. Simple plants and Algae grew at the edges of the sea.
Discovering the Great Tree Of LifeThe Earth is inhabited by millions of different life forms, and all have been connected through common ancestry in The Tree of Life. The Tree describes the diversity and interconnectedness of all living things on Earth. This video shows the current research that is being done to fully discover the Tree of Life.

"We have considered the destruction of worlds and the end of civilizations, but there is another perspective by which to measure human endeavors. Let me tell you a story -- about the beginning.
Some fifteen billion years ago our universe began with the mightiest explosion of all time. The universe expanded, cooled and darkened. Energy condensed into matter, mostly hydrogen atoms, and these atoms accumulated into vast clouds; rushing away from each other they would one day become the galaxies. Within these galaxies the first generation of stars was borne, kindling the energy hidden in matter, flooding the cosmos with light. Hydrogen atoms that made suns and starlight. There were in those times no planets to receive the light, no living creatures to admire the radiance of the heavens. But deep in the stellar furnaces nuclear fusion was creating the heavier atoms -- carbon and oxygen, silicon and iron. These elements, the ash left by hydrogen, were the raw materials from which planets and life later arrived.
At first, the heavier elements were trapped in the hearts of the stars, but massive stars soon exhausted their fuel and in their death throes returned most of their substance back into space. Interstellar gas became enriched with heavy elements.
In the Milky Way galaxy the matter of the cosmos was recycled into new generations of stars now rich in heavy atoms, a legacy from their stellar ancestors. And in the cold of. interstellar space great turbulent clouds were gathered. by gravity and stirred by starlight. In the depths the heavy atoms condensed into grains of rocky dust and ice, complex carbon-based molecules. In accordance with the laws of physics and chemistry, hydrogen atoms had brought forth the stuff of life. In other clouds more massive aggregates of gas and dust formed later generations of stars. As new stars were formed, tiny condensations of matter accreted near them, inconspicuous moats of rock and material ice and gas that would become the planets And on these worlds, as in interstellar clouds, organic molecules formed made of atoms that had been cooked inside the stars. In the tide pools and oceans of many worlds molecules were destroyed by sunlight and assembled by chemistry. One day, in these natural experiments, a molecule arose that quite by accident was able to make crude copies of itself.
As time passed self-replication became more accurate as molecules that copied better produced more copies. Natural selection was under way. Elaborate molecular machines had evolved slowly, imperceptibly -- life had begun. Collectives of organic molecules evolved into one-celled organisms. These produced multi-celled colonies. Various parts became specialized organs. Some colonies attached themselves to the sea floor; others swam freely. Eyes evolved and now the cosmos could see. Living things moved on to colonize the land. Reptiles held sway for a time and gave way to small, warm blooded creatures with bigger brains who developed dexterity and curiosity about their environment. They learned to use tools and fire and language -- star stuff, the ash of stellar alchemy had emerged into consciousness.
We are a way for the cosmos to know itself. We are creatures of the cosmos and always hunger to know our origins, to understand our connection with the universe. How did everything come to be? Every culture on the planet has devised its own response to the riddle posed by the universe. Every culture celebrates the cycles of life and nature. There are many different ways of being human.
But, an extraterrestrial visitor examining the differences among human societies would find those differences trivial compared to the similarities. We are one species. We are star stuff harvesting star light. Our lives, our past and our future are tied to the sun, the moon and the stars. Our ancestors knew that their survival depended on understanding the heavens. They built observatories and computers to predict the changing of the seasons by the motions in the skies. We are all of us descended from astronomers.
The discovery that there is order in the universe, that there are laws of nature, is the foundation on which science is built on today."

In Hungary and Poland we find two European nations whose people and deep Christian roots have suffered terribly under the most destructive ideologies in history -- Nazism and Communism. Although both nations fought valiantly, sometimes together, against the forces of oppression, both are missing millions of fellow citizens lost to war, concentration camps and abortion.
Yet the neighbors of Hungary and Poland in the European Union and around the world are watching as both have made dramatic moves to restrict abortion: Poland with a 1993 law that has virtually eliminated abortion on demand; and Hungary with 2011′s "Easter Constitution," which lays the groundwork for a possible elimination of legal abortion and other assaults on innocent life and the family. Even as pressure increases on Hungary to get in line with the rest of the EU and abandon its Christian identity and morality, Poland finds that returning to a culture of life takes more than changes in law, since Western consumerism has eclipsed the more overt attacks on life and family.
We find both important lessons and hope in the efforts of Poland and Hungary to reclaim their Christian identity, and to return to a Culture of Life.

"What is Life? The Movie" A film by Howard L. Weiner (full length film)"What is Life? The Movie" is a feature-length documentary that viewers have called a cross between "What the Bleep", "My dinner with Andre", and Woody Allen. The film explores the big questions in life for which there are no clear answers; Is there a God? What is the nature of the soul? How does one attain meaning in one's life? Why is there evil? Is there destiny? Dr. Weiner, who serves as the host, tackles these questions with a mixture of philosophy and humor.
"What is Life? The Movie" interviews over 35 different people. Filmed over a four year period in the United States, Israel, Brazil, Japan, China, Hungary, Vietnam, South Korea, and the Czech Republic, the film provides fascinating answers by religious figures, philosophers, physicists and other experts, interspersed with equally thoughtful and often hilarious responses from ordinary people of all ages and cultures. Often, some of the most thoughtful and provocative answers come from non-experts.
Howard L. Weiner, MD is the Robert L Kroc Professor of Neurology at Harvard Medical School and Director of the Partners MS Center and co-Director of the Center for Neurologic Diseases at Brigham and Women's Hospital. Dr. Weiner is the author of "Curing MS: How Science Is Solving the Mysteries of Multiple Sclerosis" and "The Children's Ward" (a novel). He studied philosophy at Dartmouth College.
Life Afterlife Part 8LIFE AFTERLIFE takes an intriguing look at the eternal question: Is there life after death? And if so, can we communicate with the dead? Through personal stories from everyday people who claim they've made contact with deceased friends and relatives, to self-proclaimed mediums, to philosophers and scientists who've dedicated their lives to these issues, this film examines the fact and fantasy of the last great frontier. The documentary was produced and directed by Lisa F. Jackson. Executive producers are Linda Ellerbee and Rolfe Tessem.

The Tibetan Book of the Dead A Way of LifeThe Tibetan Book of the Dead A Way of Life
Galileo - A summary (documentary) of this great man's life!Galileo Galilei was born in Pisa, Italy, on February 18, 1564, to a family of aristocratic lineage but average wealth. When he was seventeen, his father, a noted musician who also earned money in the wool trade, sent him to study medicine at the University of Pisa. Galileo, however, soon turned to a career in mathematics.
A lack of money forced him to leave school in 1585, and for four years he supported himself by tutoring students in mathematics. In 1589 he obtained a position lecturing at the University of Pisa, where he remained for three years, making discoveries that challenged the then-dominant view of physics, which was based on the ancient writings of the Greek philosopher Aristotle. Most famously, he discovered that two objects, dropped from the same height, fall at the same rate regardless of their weight. In 1592, he moved on to the University of Padua, where he would remain for more than fifteen years. There, he met Marina Gambi, who became his mistress and bore him three children. He also did groundbreaking research in physics, discovering the law of inertia and paving the way for the work of Sir Isaac Newton in the 17th century.
Meanwhile, in the world of astronomy, a great debate was raging between the ancient system of Ptolemy, which placed the earth in the center of the universe, and heliocentric system of Copernicus, which posited the sun at the center, and the earth in an orbit around it. In 1609, after word came from Holland of the invention of the telescope, Galileo built his own version of the instrument. With this new tool, he observed the mountains and craters on earth's moon, and discovered four moons orbiting Jupiter. In 1610 he published Sidereus Nuncius, cataloguing his discoveries, and the book made him a celebrity in Europe.
Using new evidence provided by his telescope, Galileo now began to advocate strongly the Copernican theory. The Catholic Church, however, disapproved of heliocentricity, feeling that it was contrary to the statements in the Bible: if God created human beings as His supreme creation, He would place man at the center of His cosmos. In 1616 the Church sent Galileo formal warning that they considered his theory a denial of Christian doctrine. Thus he refrained from publishing anything about his theories for the next decade, but the ascension of a liberal Pope, Urban VIII, encouraged him to publish the Dialogue Concerning the Two Chief World Systems in 1632, which openly argued for the Copernican system. The Church now accused Galileo of heresy, tried him before the Inquisition, and forced him to renounce his views and submit to the Church.
Galileo lived under house arrest for the last eight years of his life. Yet he still continued to write: in 1638, he published his last work, a compilation of all his research into physics; it was published in Germany, because the Inquisition had forbidden the printing of any of his work in Italy. Galileo went blind in 1638 and died on January 8, 1642, at the age of seventy-seven.

BiOLOGY (4th video) -- PLANET OF LiFE (apes to man)
Origin of Life 1. Life Came From Other Planets. Myth of the Organic Soup & Abiogenesishttp://Cosmology.com Origin of Life: Part 1 The Myth of the Organic Soup. Life on Earth Came From Other Planets. A documentary film by Rhawn Joseph, Ph.D. http://BrainMind.com
This film does NOT promote religion or god.
The theory of abiogenesis, that life can be created from non-life, has been part of Catholic Church dogma since the 3rd century:
"Very tiny animals result from the corruption of mortal things, arise from defects of dead bodies, or from excrements, or from putrefaction of dead bodies" -St. Augustine, Catholic Bishop, Church Father, Catholic Saint.
Life has never been created from non-life.
The "Organic soup" is a myth: religion masquerading as science.
Life on Earth came from other Planets.
This video is an except and the first chapter (Part 1), from the 55 minute film: God & The Origin of Life. This video and the associated chapters, are founded on considerable scientific evidence and are not based on religion or conceptions of god. Do not leap to conclusions about religion or god based on the title.
Each chapter may be viewed, on youtube, in any order.

The entire video may be viewed at http://BrainMind.com/Astrobiology.html
The purpose of these 5 chapters and this film is to create a scientific revolution and paradigm shift in scientific thinking and in our understanding of life on earth and in the universe.
In order to protect the status quo, the "scientific establishment" typically dismisses and falsely classifies all arguments and evidence challenging their beliefs, as an either/or choice between: science vs religion.
There is a 3rd choice, represented by these videos. This film series is based on 100% pure science and has nothing to do with religion or intelligent design.
The attack against religion is a "straw dog" and a diversion. The often hysterical and irrational threats and attacks are simply fraudulent attempts to mischaracterize Dr. Rhawn Joseph's views, and are designed to deflect attention from the fact that theories such as "Darwinism" and the "organic soup" have major flaws.
In fact, there was no organic soup, at least not on Earth. There is absolutely no evidence in support of the organic soup. By contrast, there is considerable scientific evidence for the views presented here.
As detailed in these videos, life is everywhere, and the first creatures to appear on Earth, our ancient ancestors, came from other planets.
As detailed in these chapters.
1) The Organic Soup is a myth based on a theology of miracles.
2) Life on Earth first originated on other planets.
3) A star and its solars system, several times the size of our own, exploded in a vast supernova over 5 billion years ago.
4) Mountains of debris including oceans of ice were cast into space, and some of this ejected formed our own solar system and the Earth.
5) This debris contained living creatures and their DNA.
6) Fossils have been found on 5 chronditer meteors formed before the creation of this solar system and which contain physical evidence of this supernova.
7) Fossils have been found on 3 meteors from Mars, and soil samples from the moon
8) A single dormant microbe was discovered in a camera on the moon.
9) Life on Earth can exist in any environment, from the radioactive, well below freezing, in the liquid fire of thermal vents, and at the bottom of the ocean under 9,000 pounds of pressure per square inch.
10) When threatened with death, microbes and simple animals and plants can form microscopic spores, and microbes can come back to life even after 250 million years of dormant slumber.
11) If the Earth were shattered, innumerable creatures could easily survive sheltered in debris, only to come back to life if they land on a life-sustaining world.
Conclusion: Life on Earth came from other planets. Our ancient ancestors, are visitors from the stars.

SHOW DESCRIPTION:
Tour The Cosmos In Search Of Life!
2010 marks the 50th anniversary of the first experiment to search for extraterrestrial intelligence. In 1960, astronomer Frank Drake used a radio telescope in Green Bank, West Virginia to listen to two nearby stars. He heard nothing interesting, but the idea of searching for life beyond Earth was born.
Fifty years of searching for signals and occasional broadcasting of messages has not detected any transmissions that require intelligent alien authors. Either intelligent life is much more rare or short-lived than we expected or we are not looking in the right places with the right tools.
Life in the Universe takes a fresh look at this fifty-year-old question, looking forward from the big bang, in search of those special places that might harbor life, including all of the planets in our solar system. It's a beautiful scenic tour of our universe through the eyes of astronomers looking for clues about the origin of life and the development of intelligence.
The vistas are breathtaking from stellar birth clouds like the Orion and Trifid Nebulas to the death throes of Eta Carinae and the mysterious surfaces of nearby planets, their moons and rings. Join the search and enjoy the adventure.
Life in the Universe is partially funded though a NASA public outreach grant directed by Dr. George Fox, Department of Biology and Biochemistry, University of Houston.
Produced by the Houston Museum Of Natural Science.
NOTE: this is a low resolution, cropped, widescreen version for preview purposes only. The warped projection is used with a mirror dome system.

Nearly 40% of the homeless population in the Tempe area are young adults between the ages of 18–23. However, few agencies or programs specifically address the needs of this population. Using video ethnography, this project sought to identify the needs of homeless young people and to develop a self-portrait of the homeless in the university area. The video provided a depiction of the everyday life, expressions of self, and demonstrates the lack of opportunities experienced by homeless young people. It was used as a tool for opening dialogue regarding the issues of homelessness in the Tempe area.

Origin of Life - Abiogenesis 2of5Intelligent Design and Young Earth Creationist organisations often misrepresent evolution by stating that it does not explain the origin of life. This is a dishonest tactic. Of course the theory of evolution doesn't explain the origin of life. It is not supposed to. The origin of life or abiogenesis is within the field of chemistry not biology. Evolution explains the diversity of life within the field of biology not chemistry.
