Ancient Burial Site Vandalized Next to Road in PeruThe Ancient Wari people inhabited Southern Coastal Peru from 500-1000AD. Now their ancient burial ground, and most likely an important archaeological site is literally open to the public but not in a good way. Thousand year old bones, artifacts, and cloths are strewn acros the hills here next to a major road for everyone to see. Looters have taken most everything of any value.
This is a cautionary tale of greed and mismanagement. Please if you visit Peru, make sure not to buy anything someone calls an artifact and as strange as it seems, visiting the burial ground may help preserve it as local tourism leaders and officials may see the value in taking care of the grounds for future tourism revenue.
