-- Android and iPhone Lens Filters for Better Smartphone Videos! --
Lens filters are a key tool in any Pro Filmmaker or Photographers arsenal, and for very good reason… They can not only improve the detail and composition of your shot under the right conditions, but also unlock a huge amount of creative potential and flexibility!
Shooting on my smartphone, I’ve missed having a decent set of filters and the extra flexibility they provide. I’ve been experimenting with filters for smartphones for a while now but hadn’t found any that I’d give a solid ‘thumbs up’ and recommend on the channel… Most were made of cheaper plastic, and definitely didn’t hit the quality bar I was looking for... until now!
SANDMARC recently reached out offering to send us a free set of their filters to try… After checking out their website (they made some BIG promises), I was keen to put the SANDMARC filters to the test!
After using the Smartphone lens filters on a variety of shoots (specifically the ND and Polarizer filters), we wanted to do a full review on the channel for anyone looking for ways to level up their ‘Smartphone Video game’ (oh... and smartphone photography! :D )
Don’t worry, if you’re new to camera filters - this is not just a SANDMARC filter review… We also run through the key filters I’d recommend to get started (the Polarizer and ND filter for phones), and HOW you can start using them!

Shutter Speed for Smartphone Video Explained feat. Moondog Labs ND Filter KitLearn how to get the film look on your iPhone or Android by adjusting shutter speed in this epic tutorial featuring the Moondog Labs ND Filter Kit and FiLMiC Pro, which allows you to shoot in full sun and maintain the 180 degree shutter rule for filmic motion.
For filmmakers and photographers, the shutter speed makes up one part of what’s called the exposure triangle, along with aperture and ISO - and the photographer or videographer uses an interplay of all three of these to achieve correct exposure and the desired look. The shutter speed determines how long each frame of your video is exposed for, and is measured in fractions of a second, and you can use shutter speed to control the motion blur, or lack there of in your shot.
In this video you’ll learn about the important role shutter speed plays in not only correctly exposing your shot correctly on an iPhone, but also in achieving the much sought after ‘film look’ on a mobile device through its impact on motion blur, and how you can set this manually using FiLMiC Pro with the Moondog Labs Filter Kit for pretty incredible results.

The Painter of JalouziThe film tells the story of one citizen from Jalouzi, one of the largest slums in Haiti, who is determined to bring color to the impoverished area by helping paint the entire town, literally.
Believing that color has the power to transform his community, he’s helping to paint everywhere – on houses, on buses, and the entire hillside. Armed with brushes of bright blues, pastel pinks, and sunshine yellows, he’s helping to mobilize citizens of all ages, determined to turn the grey town into a rainbow full of color to lead the way to a brighter Haiti.

"Gorgeous. A perfectly cast, beautifully directed movie." - The New York Times
It's Christmas Eve in Tinseltown and Sin-Dee (newcomer Kitana Kiki Rodriguez) is back on the block. Upon hearing that her pimp boyfriend (James Ransone, STARLET, "Generation Kill") hasn't been faithful during the 28 days she was locked up, the working girl and her best friend, Alexandra (newcomer Mya Taylor), embark on a mission to get to the bottom of the scandalous rumor. Their rip-roaring odyssey leads them through various subcultures of Los Angeles, including an Armenian family dealing with their own repercussions of infidelity. Director Sean Baker’s prior films (STARLET, PRINCE OF BROADWAY) brought rich texture and intimate detail to worlds seldom seen on film. TANGERINE follows suit, bursting off the screen with energy and style. A decidedly modern Christmas tale told on the streets of L.A., TANGERINE defies expectation at every turn.

Our friends over at Global Hydration stopped by today to install their Elua water filtration system. This turned out to be a great opportunity to shoot something with the Morpheus Stabilizer. This clip was shot using just an iPhone5, Schneider's iPro wide angle lens, Cinevate's Morpheus Stabilizer and ambient lighting only.

With a 100% iPhone 5 workflow, the piece was shot over 3 hours, edited in iMovie and uploaded to Vimeo from my iphone5. The "flying" portion of the footage was also our media man Dan's first ever footage with the stabilizer!
