Work With Brian Collins“I learned very early on that design is the bridge between what is and what should be.” After ten years as the CCO of Ogilvy, Brian Collins launched COLLINS in 2008 with a mission to do incredible craft at incredible scale, solving really complex design puzzles for some of the world’s largest brands. From their offices in San Francisco and New York, the team at COLLINS has created work for clients like Coca-Cola, Spotify, ESPN, Airbnb, and Equinox, winning recognition from every major creative award. The respect, innovation, and impact that COLLINS applies to design has made the company a permanent fixture on the Working Not Working community’s wish list of places to join. In our newest installment of Work With, a film series that introduces you to the creatives behind the work, we sit down with the singular CCO & Co-Founder, who reflects on the role of design, pioneering a new career trajectory, and the duality of a creative life.

It’s a traditional occupation in the village of Tuntou, China, dating back to ancient times. Bai makes tens of thousands of lanterns every year. Some of Bai’s lamps are small, but he is also known for his giant lanterns. And he wants to go even bigger.

Bedfords were first introduced to British India during World War II. This truck model and others similar to it stuck around, and since then they've been produced commercially throughout the country. But today, they’re not just functional and mundane — their paintings make them stand out.
Colorful trucks aren’t rare in India, and their designs aren’t random. Artists that specialize in painting these trucks put a lot of thought into the art form, making the vehicles a spectacle of beauty in India.
This Vox Borders episode looks at why truck art is such a staple in India.

The Cyborg Artist: Tattooing with a Custom ProsthesisWhen JC Sheitan Tenet lost his right arm, he didn’t lose his will to make incredible tattoos. In fact, working without an arm gave his work more meaning. Then Tenet met artist Jean-Louis Gonzal, who creates spellbinding “biomechanic” works, and the two brainstormed a remarkable custom prosthetic tattoo machine. The device can pivot 360 degrees and allows Tenet to create abstract designs unlike anyone else.

IKIGAI: The Shin Biyajima StoryI was able to spend three years traveling and exploring the Japanese Alps with Shin Biyajima during the production of "The Fourth Phase" film. During that time I shared so many adventures and conversations with this new friend of mine. After our film released, I really wanted to capture a more authentic portrait of Shin and his process of living and riding as a Japanese snowboarder. I spent about six weeks over two years following Shin around his backyard in the Nagano Prefecture hiking, inquiring and immersing myself in Shin’s universe. Joined by film maker Justin Smith, we wanted to capture an intimate portrait of a lifestyle that is quite foreign compared to the norms of North America, yet still strangely similar to the principles that most snowboarders share around the love of the mountains.

The Fine Art of Television RepairChi-Tien Lui is an electrical engineer and technician whose craft has evolved to the realm of high art. Born in China, he trained as a technician in Taiwan before moving to the U.S. and setting up his own shop in downtown Manhattan in 1968. During this time, televisions began to evolve and video became an important part of the experimental art scene, especially for big players like Andy Warhol and John Lennon. But, over time, wear and tear and years sitting in museums can cause machinery to fail, which means the potential of losing priceless art forever. That’s where Chi-Tien Lui comes in. He’s become the go-to guy for institutions like the Smithsonian and MoMA to preserve these legendary electronics.

Resynthesis - Max CooperMax Cooper:
I had a lot of high speed train journeys recently and I love watching the wires seemingly dance around outside the window. I wondered if we could be getting fooled by a similar process during our usual experience of time, and thought it would be an interesting project for a music video set to the music created during the same journeys.
The wires outside the window are static but they appear to move because of our motion past them. Perhaps our usual experience of movement could be explained by a similar process, where time is a physical dimension into which everything grows, with the present as the surface of this inflating structure. It ties in to a lot of physics ideas which are very common, and I thought it could make for an interesting music video, if I could find someone who might be able to pull it off!
Luckily for me, one of my favourite visual artists, Kevin McGloughlin had already been experimenting with linked techniques and ideas, and he's gone to town on it with a multitude of techniques and editing precision to create something pretty special. And yes, there's certainly a nod to the original time-stretch slitscan effects of Kubrick's 2001.
I wanted to show the transition from our normal experience of time to a stretched out past as a physical structure when viewed from an alternative perspective outside of the dimensions we're usually constrained to.
One other interesting thing about this model of time is that it helps with some mind-pickling metaphysical conundrums around the sense in which the past exists. In this model it literally exists out there behind us as a physical 4D structure. If we could travel outside of our growing surface somehow and went back to the past it wouldn't be much fun though, we'd just find solid lifeless stretched out versions of ourselves.
For the music I wanted to bring these ideas of frozen moments of the past into play, and no better excuse to get stuck in with the Prophet 6 on some lush classic analogue synth sounds for the main chord sequence, and plenty of nob noodling for a dance of modulating sounds around the main sequence. I wanted to keep it fairly sparse to let the chord patch be central, and just focus on trying to make every element, including the percussion, warp a little, so you can either listen to the track from a distance and hear the harmonic ideas, or delve in to find all sorts more hiding in there. Kevin did an amazing (and painstaking) job of warping the video to sync with the audio detailing.

Kevin McGloughlin:
Max Cooper and I discussed ideas about space-time before embarking on the Resynthesis project.
We were on the same page for the most part, though, working with Max is always insightful and he enlightened me with some really fascinating ideas about space - time.
I was delighted to once again collaborate, especially with reference to 'time', which is such a relatable and unavoidable part of everyone and everything.
The track is really beautiful, I saw the visuals in the music quite clearly from the offset.
I could hear the 'time stretching' in the melodies and synths and I was greatly inspired by it.
My aspiration in this piece was to create a journey for the viewer, a passage through space and time, in an effort to represent time as a dimensional structure.
I aimed to convey existence as a solid component of time, an effort to glimpse the idea that our past still exists out there in a stretched, distorted dwelling..
I wanted to capture a human / mortal essence of time, displaying brief impressions of human interactions and activity, traveling in time.
All the fundamental assets were captured employing photography and realtime footage.
I stretched time in both 3d and 2d space using a wide variety of time displacement techniques, ranging from 'in camera' work to quite laborious post production work.
Fun Fact..Some of the clips contain exactly one googol videos playing simultaneously.
(using a method I devised some time ago, ie.the second last very short clip)
Most of footage/photography was shot in Dublin Ireland, with additional shots from Co. Sligo.
Working with Max always makes for an interesting time.

The Cinematic Control Room 1971-2015A video essay about control rooms in film and television since the 1970s. Computers, screen interfaces, and the rooms they are in are connected to the political context of a particular era. Always-on control room technologies result in a security and political crisis that is permanent, so potential threats in popular screen narratives come from sources that are imagined to be permanent, such as 'terrorism' and 'cyberattack'.

David Carson - All For a Few Good WavesDavid Carson is arguably the world’s most well known graphic designer. All For a Few Good Waves is a short documentary portrait offering a raw glimpse into the life and work of David, an uncompromising genius, who refuses to be anyone but himself.
After a career as a top ranked pro surfer and high school sociology teacher, he rose to prominence in the 90’s after art directing Transworld, Beach Culture and Ray Gun Magazines before going on to start his studio. With no formal design training, Carson took the design world by storm, upending conventions and breaking traditional rules he didn’t even know existed.

The sculptures Beth Cavener creates focus on human psychology, stripped of context and rationalization, and articulated through animal and human forms.
Cavener wants to pry at those uncomfortable, awkward edges between animal and human. Entangled in their own internal and external struggles, the figures express frustration for the human tendency towards cruelty and lack of understanding. Something conscious and knowing is captured in their gestures and expressions.

Gunther Holtorf's 23 Year Road TripBack in 1989, as the Berlin Wall fell, Gunther Holtorf and his wife Christine set out on what was meant to be an 18-month tour of Africa in their Mercedes Benz G Wagon. Now, with more than 800,000km (500,000 miles) on the clock, Gunther is still going.
The German former airline executive has travelled the equivalent of 20 times around the planet in the vehicle - which he calls Otto. He says he has never had a serious breakdown. Recently in Vietnam, Canadian-born photographer David Lemke joined Gunther on one section of his epic journey.

Tycho – See (Official Performance Cut)Upon releasing the Music Video for Tycho’s track ‘See’ on Ghostly International, we decided a special release of the Performance Cut was worthy of public consumption, ultimately editing a montage of the entire band performance using only Kinect-informed, infrared footage with practical selects dappled amongst the 5 minutes for visual reprieve.. The result is a visual journey into the band’s aural landscape, immersing the eyes in a sea of bokeh where the instruments and performers melt into a performance charged with circular aberrations of light and color..

THE FILM TECHNIQUE

We started experimenting with infrared lighting and discovered that the IR emitter in the Microsoft Kinect projected a starfield-like dot pattern not unlike what a 3D render of point cloud data looks like.. Captured with our full spectrum camera it became photographic, where fields of bokeh and shimmering discs reveal multiple layers of shape and form.. In addition, some of the lens flares we were able to make with the Kinect are unlike anything we've ever seen before - creating super dense moire patterns and 3D-like caustic inversions of lens geometry.

The set in which we shot the Performance was totally dark, aside from a red laser as our backdrop - we could not see anything except while looking through the cameras viewfinder. Operating a camera in this situation was like a real manifestation of virtual reality. The band also couldn’t see each other and couldn’t tell who or what the camera was looking at - which ultimately made the performance feel very raw and unhindered.. The visual results tie perfectly with the concept of ’See’ in which we always seem to reveal new worlds that are beyond our terrestrial abilities of sight..
Inside Me ( Nils Frahm - Me Rework)This project is based on a 3D-scan technique, which allows me to reproduce an image of my own body as a 3D object in a software. It is possible to view this object not just from outside, but also from the inside as a negative as well, which creates abstract shapes.
The colouration was generated with the help of colour data I took from a real picture.

The film reflects the invisible inner world of an individual, which owns a small universe in itself, created by experiences and feelings - as well in the digital world as in real life. We try to express ourselves and approach our world another being, but still, nobody can see in our souls entirely.

For me, the process of scanning is a very important part of this work itself.
The idea of digitising a body and hence the creation and deformation of its computer generated self, reflects the digital world we live in today. We create an alternative world, in which everybody can be what they want to be. In some way, it resembles to an act of creation.
We never stop building more worlds for ourselves, even though there are already various ones encircling us, that we don't even understand yet.
Each universe encloses another, which creates a new one, and the world next to us still seems far away. And so we look into infinity again, which inevitably surrounds us.
The Hat MakerWe arrived at the shop early in the morning as the first light entered the room. Dust particles danced through sunbeams as we began to move items around the space, debating wardrobe and the shot sequence. Nick entered and listened to what we had planned. He nodded his head, pulled a piece of beaver felt down from a shelf, set it on the table and began to work.

Worries of the wardrobe, makeup, and set dressing fell away. It didn't matter who he was, what he was wearing, or whose hat he was making - in front of the camera camera was a man and his craft, the beauty of his work uncluttered. Watching Nick work froze our day in time and if it weren’t for the light blinking on the camera we would have had no reference to the year.

In a society that often forgets the importance of making something by hand, Nick Fouquet’s artistry is a reminder of what is at the core of this country. We left inspired and grateful to be able to capture a timeless discipline passed down through generations.
Icheon Master HandThe American Museum of Ceramic Art is honored to present ICHEON: Reviving the Korean Ceramics tradition, an unprecedented exhibition organized by Icheon, South Korea. Icheon has a history of ceramic culture that began over 5000 years ago and has a reputation for its internationally renowned ceramics cultural events. Now Icheon
has reached out to an American institution for the very first time. As the premiere exhibition of its kind in the United States, ICHEON will present over 230 objects never before seen on American soil that exemplify the revival of the ceramics tradition in Korea from antique techniques to contemporary innovations.
Icheon Public opening is from October 12th- December 29th. Join us in welcoming Icheon Dignitaries as we celebrate this major exhibition on Saturday, November 9, 2013, 6:00pm‐8:30pm.
Founded in 2001 and opened in September, 2004, AMOCA is one of the few museums in the United States devoted exclusively to ceramic art and historic innovations in ceramic technology. It is located in an area abounding with ceramic history and internationally recognized clay artists from the Arts and Crafts Movement, the 60's Clay Revolution and the current Studio Pottery Era. Geographically, the building is located in an urban downtown district where art is an important element of the continuing and successful community revitalization program. The home community consists of a rich ethnic mix and a large academic constituency with approximately fifteen institutions of higher learning within an eight-mile radius.

This year we where tasked with creating the opening title sequence, title slates and idents for the prestigious D&AD awards. I provided the concept, design and art direction with additional help from Oliver Harris . These where then brought to life by Oliver and Matt Whitewood. A lot of hard work all round especially within such a short timeframe. Each machine was designed to utilise objects and materials that you would find in an art and design shop. This was to reflect the qualities of D&AD.
Juxtapoz x Adobe Present: The Making of... A Jeremy Fish DrawingFor the past few months, we have been following a special project between Adobe, Juxtapoz, and Jeremy Fish, in which Fish will be creating an animated mural that utilizes the new updates to Adobe Creative Cloud and the new creative hardware, Adobe Ink & Slide. Previously we had asked, "What if Fish took his 100 drawings—telling not only his history but also a special story about San Francisco—and created an animation that could be projected in a public space in the city for passersby to see as part of a moving-mural experience?" At the end of July 2014, Fish will be projecting the mural in the North Beach neighborhood, which he calls home.
Using Adobe Illustrator CC, Photoshop CC, After Effects CC, and the collaboration features in Adobe Creative Cloud, Fish and his friends will work together to bring the mural to life. In this video we show Fish's work in the context of his day-to-day art-making process. He is an artist who works with pens and ink, meticulously crafting his narrative drawings and paintings, which begin on an 11" x 14" piece of paper. As part of this series, which shows Fish transforming his work into a projection and mural that we hope creates new opportunities to share his art, we wanted to showcase the core of Fish's studio practice: drawing. Here we capture the making of one of Fish's iconic 11" x 14" pieces, which will be part of his mural animation.
This is part 3 in a six-part video-documentary series.

We made ReMoved with the desire that it would be used to serve in bringing awareness, encourage, and be useful in foster parent training, and raising up foster parents. .
Originally created for the 168 Film Festival, ReMoved follows the emotional story through the eyes of a young girl taken from her home and placed into foster care.

After winning Best Film and Audience Choice at the 168 Film Festival, as well as winning Best Film at the Enfoque Film Festival and being an official selection at the Santa Barbara Independent Film Festival, we're extremely excited to share ReMoved online.

"It would be impossible to fully understand the life and emotions of a child going through the foster care system, but this short narrative film portrays that saga in a poetic light, with brushes of fear, anger, sadness, and a tiny bit of hope." -Santa Barbara Independent

This short film wouldn't be possible without the help of an incredible group of people who donated their time and energy to this project.

And then of course Tony Cruz. I asked him early on if he’d be willing to tackle this with me. I wasn’t sure if I was really going to pursue it unless he said yes. He graciously agreed and was, to me, a huge source of confidence in knowing this project would turn out well. He and i discussed everything during the pre-production, and i counted on his creative mind to keep me on the right path. He even persuaded another key creative on the project, Greg Pickard, to join us. On Set Tony was my right hand man. On set, if I just wasn’t feeling it, I had the trust in him to be able to just hand the scene off to him and know he would make it work. And he stepped in plenty of times when i just needed a break, or a separate perspective. Some of the best moments in the film are of his doing. Go check him out at www.tonycruz.co

We were very fortunate with Abby White, the young actress. Without her we wouldn’t have a film.

Her parents were so amazing as well. I don’t think they anticipated how much involvement it would take on their end, but they stuck with it the whole way. Abby’s dad, Andy White from Good Times Guitar, even recorded Abby’s Voice Over for us in his studio.

We also owe a huge thanks to Sabrina Culver, the birth mom, who brought so much to her role. Please be sure to check out her credits here: http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0191747/
We can vouch for her. She's worth working with!

Made by Hand / No 4 The Cigar ShopA project from www.bureauofcommongoods.com, Made by Hand is a new short film series celebrating the people who make things by hand—sustainably, locally, and with a love for their craft.

In 1974, Dominican immigrant Don Antonio Martinez started a small shop in New York City selling hand rolled cigars. Thirty-eight years later his son, Jesus, carries on the tradition. The shop combines craftsmanship with community, mixing equal parts work and play.
Made by Hand / No 3 The BeekeeperA project from http://bureauofcommongoods.com, Made by Hand is a new short film series celebrating the people who make things by hand—sustainably, locally, and with a love for their craft.

Local farmer Megan Paska has witnessed beekeeping as it morphed from an illegal (and possibly crazy) habit to a sustainable, community-supported skill. Mirroring beekeeping’s own ascendance, she found more than just a living: “This is the first time in my life when I’ve just felt absolutely on the right path.”

In our second film, we meet writer turned knife maker Joel Bukiewicz of Cut Brooklyn. He talks about the human element of craft, and the potential for a skill to mature into an art. And in sharing his story, he alights on the real meaning of handmade—a movement whose riches are measured in people, not cash.

In our inaugural film, we visit the Breuckelen Distilling Company, the first gin distiller in Brooklyn since prohibition. Founder Brad Estabrooke talks about starting from nothing and the imperfect process of perfecting a craft. His experience bears a lesson for us all: knowing you could fail brings you that much closer to success.
Story:

“This is the way the world ends
Not with a bang but a whimper.” - TS ELLIOTT

Transience reflects the condition of every being in the universe seen through a sensitive, intellectual or even felt experience.
Even further, what humanity can’t describe, touch or identify is also linked to the same vanishing flow.
As big can be atoms or minuscule the stars, it’s all about sequences, pace, sudden apparitions or slow decay.
Humanity seems to have a unique potential in this constant struggle between life and entropy.
Whether our aptitudes help us prevail and evolve or instead accelerates our doom we have yet to decide.
That hesitation would come to an end with self-annihilation, but an end may just be a transition, a transformation.

Process:

Structured in a pseudo-timeline, the film is visually bringing a balance of positive and negative aspects in humanity. Slow or fast paced scenes, soft nature or hard concrete environments are shown as global human experience.
Initially a personal practice to bring mental concepts to life, this movie is achieved by two individuals, Julien Vanhoenacker as writer/director/VFX artist and Nicolas Vitte as music composer.
A great deal of computing power is needed to generate CGI images and the availability of the renderfarm of The Post Bangkok is a chance that allows this film to exist.
Creating these visual metaphors is a lengthy process spanning over many months. This allows ideas to be refined and become stronger in time, but also requires organisation, endurance and perfectionism, as well as the ability to stay focused on the initial intention.
John Lewis 'The Bear & The Hare' - The Making OfMaking of film directed by Jake & Josh
www.jakeandjosh.co.uk

The Bear & the Hare is the first John Lewis campaign to embrace the emotive power of animation, a filmic technique so evocative of Christmasses gone by.

Elliot and Yves took the two most traditional and time-honoured animation processes – stop-motion and traditional hand-drawn 2D animation – and combined them to create something innovative and unique. Their aim was to do almost everything in camera, using real lighting, lens and film craft to build a world where the audience can see and feel the painstaking work behind it. The 2D animation’s physical interaction with the set and the human imperfections inherent in the process create a hand-crafted piece full of heart and integrity.

The animation process involved constant shifts between 2D and 3D worlds. In order to achieve this complicated combination the whole film was first created in Blinkink Studios as a 3D previsualisation animatic with all the sets and characters built to scale. This allowed everything to be developed and planned alongside the modelmakers and animators, thus integrating the different disciplines and processes before the set was built or the characters were printed.

Aaron Blaise (Brother Bear, The Lion King, Mulan) and his team of veteran Disney animators at Premise Entertainment in Orlando, Florida, designed and animated the characters. The 2D-animation frames were printed onto mounted paper and cut with a laser. Each frame (nearly 4,000 in total) was then individually hand-labelled before going on set. Feature-film stop-frame animators then spent 6 weeks bringing the world to life.

The set was built by our production designer John Lee (Aliens, Fantastic Mr Fox, Frankenweenie) and his team at Shepperton Studios before being transported to Clapham Road Studios ready for the stop-motion shoot.

Post-production was done in-house in Blinkink’s animation studio, and the final grade was completed at MPC.
Making RAEN - Carlo and Dante MondaviMeet Vita Brevis Films | www.vitabrevisfilms.com

Two brothers from winemaking lineage venture out on their own to break from the estate vineyard model and to show that young winemakers can still have a harvest. RAEN is the first creation from Carlo & Dante Mondavi. The Mondavi legacy has spread outward from Napa Valley for more than a century. Carlo and Dante strive to explore and to find their own path in the creation of their own wine while testing the rules and boundaries of their childhood. These contrasting worlds and trials lead to their first 2013 RAEN creation. The brothers are showing that a world class Pinot Noir can be made by young winemakers from the unusual climate of the Sonoma Coast.
ValFollow me on my journey through the most significant and emotional year of my life.
'Val' is a chronological documentation day by day from 15 Feb 2013 to 15 Feb 2014.
Starting as a sort of travel/visual diary animation, the film took a big transformation. it turned out a completely different proposition altogether, covering huge milestones in my life beyond any of my expectations.
Within this time frame you will see in order-
My time in Brazil for my friends wedding.
My journey traveling the east coast of Australia.
The last days in Salisbury leading up to my Mother passing away.
A stag festival.
Getting married in Peru.
My mothers funeral.
A lot of London, whilst getting a visa for my wife.
A second trip to Peru.
Moving into a new house.
Getting a new Job.
And then finally getting my wife Lisi here just in time to give birth to our son Leonard.
A year by no means as I planed, filled with emotion from euphoria to despair and back.
The process of making this film has helped me get through this time. It has kept my brain active and been a challenge that I have endured in the name of my beautiful mother.
The name Val is taken from both my mum Valerie Sheppard and my son Leonard Valentino Graham. I felt this truly represents this crazy circle of life.
The mandala that appears with the logo and on the locket is symbolic of a year. The inner 12 circles for months the middle 56 for weeks and outer 365 for days.

All the photos are hand stabilised and taken using my iPhone, 80% 4S, 20% 5S.
The shots when I was overseas where mainly spontaneous but the ones in London had too be far more considered. I would plan locations before hand and work out times of the day or year that I would visit them. This meant in the winter months I would have to get up early and travel London before starting work.
I nearly forgot a couple of times and I thought I had lost my phone a few times too which would have ruined the project. Thankfully i managed to keep hold of both laptop and phone whilst on my travels and armed with an alarm on my phone I remembered everyday. Maybe my mum was looking out for me.
"I Dream of Wires: Hardcore Edition" trailer (09/2013 re-issue)I Dream of Wires: Hardcore Edition
DVDs, BluRays and accessories available to order now:
http://sciencewithsynthesizers.com

Due to overwhelming demand, we're pleased to announce a repress of I DREAM OF WIRES: HARDCORE EDITION, our independent documentary epic exploring the history, demise and resurgence of the ultimate electronic music machine, the MODULAR SYNTHESIZER. Available to order now from our new SCIENCE WITH SYNTHESIZERS webshop (sciencewithsynthesizers.com), and coming soon to other select retailers.

I Dream of Wires: Hardcore Edition is a companion to the forthcoming feature-length documentary, I DREAM OF WIRES. An alternate/extended cut, I Dream of Wires: Hardcore Edition is 4 hours in length, custom made for hardcore modular synthesizer and electronic music fanatics. Originally intended as a limited-edition pressing, available exclusively to IndieGoGo and pre-order customers, interest and demand for the 4-hour Hardcore Edition has surged since copies were shipped in August 2013. It seems that a 4-hour documentary about modular synthesizers isn't as niche as we thought! While a 4-hours may seem excessive, feedback has been overwhelmingly positive, which has only reinforced our own feelings that the Hardcore Edition is a fun and compelling watch, one that deserves to be seen by a wider audience.

I Dream of Wires: Hardcore Edition includes an exclusive, lengthy historical primer, exploring the early development of modular synthesizers from pioneering companies Moog Music Inc. and Buchla and Associates. From there, we find out what's happening now: the phenomenal resurgence of the modular synthesizer — exploring the passions, obsessions and dreams of people who have dedicated part of their lives to this esoteric electronic music machine. What started out as a "vintage-revival scene" in the '90s has grown into an underground phenomena with a growing market of modular obsessives craving ever more wild and innovative sounds and interfaces. Today, the modular synthesizer is no longer an esoteric curiosity or even a mere music instrument — it is an essential tool for radical new sounds and a bona fide subculture.

Interview subjects include musicians and producers Trent Reznor (Nine Inch Nails), Gary Numan, Vince Clarke (Erasure), Morton Subotnick, Chris Carter (Throbbing Gristle), Daniel Miller, Carl Craig, Flood, cEvin Key (Skinny Puppy), James Holden, Factory Floor, Legowelt, John Foxx and Bernie Krause, as well as manufacturers and modular industry leaders Doepfer, Modcan, Make Noise, Intellijel, Metasonix, Synthesis Technology/MOTM, Muffwiggler Mike, and Andreas Schneider.
Breeder was invited back to create the opening titles for Analogue/Digital, so once again, we threw ourselves into the project and didn't hold back. This year, we developed an ambitious aesthetic based upon the idea of double exposure, inspired by Alabaster's amazing track and the conference's program design. We worked around the theme of binary, juxtaposing the urban sprawl and nature, black and white, flight and fall, and unification and disintegration. It was a labour of love and we couldn't be prouder with the end result.
When opened, Hala Stulecia was the largest reinforced concrete structure in the world. With a diameter of 65m it was home to the largest dome built since the Pantheon in Rome eighteen centuries earlier.

The piece proposed for the Centennial Hall of Wroclaw is based around the notion of timelessness in architecture, and the idea of what future has meant throughout the 20th century.

Taking the 1910’s as a starting point (the dome was erected in 1913), historical and artistic references were used to reveal the architecture of the space.
By using references such as Fritz Lang’s Metropolis or the utopian projects of Archigram to confront the different visions of the future at different times, Romain Tardy and Thomas Vaquié were interested in trying to create a vision of a future with no precise time reference. A timeless future.
When opened, Hala Stulecia was the largest reinforced concrete structure in the world. With a diameter of 65m it was home to the largest dome built since the Pantheon in Rome eighteen centuries earlier. The Centennial Hall was listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2006. Taking the 1910’s as a starting point (the dome was erected in 1913), historical and artistic references were used to reveal the architecture of the space, its timeless and, more surprisingly, very modern dimension.

A deliberately minimalist visual aesthetic allowed to highlight the very architecture of Hala Stulecia’s dome and re-affirm its place at the core of the piece.
