Some more scene testing and slow-motion conforming on a 1080p timeline. This was output as 9Gb ProRes 422 file and transcoded once more to mp4 using mpegstreamclip at 5000Kbps ceiling mode (300Mb file) as FCPX kept failing to upload the estimated 1.5Gb h264 file direct to Vimeo. I will endeavour to keep trying to upload the original as the colour differences are quite large!<br />

Panasonic GH3 Review 6: People 'A'Direct fcpx to h264/ vimeo output version at estimated 940Mb file size. The only way (in case its still saturated after Vimeo has done its encode) is to download the original movie file (see DOWNLOAD button below) to get a proper eval. Panasonic GH3 Review 5: Wi-fi OperationA visual overview of the Panasonic Lumix Link v2.1.25 App for iPhone/ipad and Android on the new Panasonic GH3 camera. All in all this new Lumix Link App update is fabulous. <br />
Update: iphone 5 users are experiencing problems with this new Lumix Link software for the GH3. No doubt there will be a rapid turnaround to fix this. <br />
<br />
<br />
What we need in the next update:<br />
1. Viewing on phone enabled when movie recording and NOT covered by the countdown dialog.<br />
2. The ability to Zoom, change ISO, etc from phone whilst recording.<br />
3. Timecode over Wi-Fi or open source the API so developers can improve on applications.<br />

Including tests on 720p50, 1080p50, 1080p24/25 and 'Frame Rate' modes 40%, 48%, 80%, 160% and 300% - I forgot to record 300% ! Note: Only 1080p24 FHD (IPB) works with 'Frame Rate' Modes..<br />
<br />
Whilst recording this I did notice fast ISO changing down from the range to 200 ISO at 200 ISO produced macro blocking for the first few seconds before settling. However, it was at night with a helluva lot of lights.<br />

Panasonic GH3 Review 2: Basic Scene Guides & Creative Control SettingsA daytime run thru of the main picture scenes/(profiles), Scene Guides and Creative Control. Many of these effects are to be found on other Lumix cameras - the GH3 just happens to make them look so much better with the availability of high bitrates. <br />
<br />
Shot in the UK rain, handheld and cold, I think I'm excused for the rather hasty collection of wide 'fixed' shots but it gives you a rough idea of what 'style' you can expect of your pictures in-camera, without the grading.<br />

A humorous look at some of the new features of the GH3 against the GH2 together with a insight into the raw recording capabilities of the new Panasonic shotgun microphone, the DMW-MS2, all made in a day using the GH3. <br />
<br />
No lighting (apart from a few +brightness tests for Vimeo in readiness for a grade), OR sound changes (apart from volumes for phone simulation) was used in the production of this mini-epic. We make NO apologies that this was a very hastily put together - scripted in an hour, filmed in two, edited in about the same. Grading is to be done and will replace this version over the next few days... for sure.<br />
<br />
There's lots of dialect errors & bad acting - of course! (including Jim's ever-changing pronunciation of the word 'sensor' !!) We feel we need to apologise to Italian Americans intensely. :-)<br />
<br />
All in all, this feature was to give a quick overview of the GH3's new features over the Lumix GH2 camera AND to give the new Panasonic shotgun mic - the DMW-MS2 - a (virtually) unedited workout. For run-and-gun the mic was very good on this shoot, however, fiddling within the GH3 setup menus is advisable. To summarise, its not really a replacement for a pro audio setup but is much better than Pany's earlier offerings. The electret condensor mic's freq response is 80 Hz to 20 kHz, features uni-directional (GUN) and uni-directional (STEREO) characteristics, sensitivity of -35 dB with a s/n ratio of 70 dB. Its a 3.5 mm mini plug weighing 4.7 oz. A wind breaker, camera clip and tripod mount shoe comes as standard. 4 out of 5 for the mic.

Setting A Custom White Balance [GH3 & GH4]Support me here: https://www.amazon.com/?tag=gepsfjs-20
In this video I show you how to set a custom white balance on your Panasonic GH3 and GH4. This technique should be similar for any other modern dslr.
GH3 Video Menu Setting Options (NTSC / USA version)Video file options in the Lumix GH3 set to MOVIE MODE:
In reply to my pal Eran in Isreal, my GH3 is the USE / NTSC version with no PAL option ability. There are lots of frame rate options from 60 fps to 24 and three video formats to choose from. No 25pfs I'm afraid, but here's a quick menu run thru on what I do see - hope this helps you.
Back Button Autofocus (AF) for LUMIX GH3, GH4 and GX7 camerasBack-button AF is the process of using a button other than the shutter button (usually on the back of the camera) to activate the auto focus. It is very useful for wildlife and sports photography, but many people use this setup all the time.
This video explains how to set up your LUMIX camera for back-button AF.
Setup Your GH3 Like a BOSS - Part 4 of 4 Custom SettingsSetup Your GH3 Like a BOSS - Part 4 of 4 Custom Settings
In part 4 of 4 I'll show you how I can quickly build custom settings such as Retro, Color and Monochrome looks and store them in the GH3's C1-3 buttons...like a BOSS.
BTW, to see an AMAZING video on how to take control of what Will Crockett calls the "SuperFeatures" of the GH4 and GH4, please grab a copy of "The Insiders Guide to Setup the SuperFeatures of the Lumix GH3" video available by unlimited streaming with all the other 22+ hybrid photo videos at:
http://thePHOTOchannel.pro
for only $24.99 per month, or just get a copy on DVD at HybridHOUSE.pro for $24.99 + shipping.
Now that you got your function buttons set, quick menu customized and JPEG settings you're almost ready to shoot like a boss playa. What we'll do now is take those settings and store them into the C1, C2, C3-1, C3-2 and C2-3. Once you got your custom formulas for awesomeness stored for quick recall when shooting, you'll quickly be able to bounce from shooting a film like color mode to a monochrome, retro, cross process...and shoot video that looks like your stills too!
This is what makes the GH3 so amazing. It's not that it shoots stills and video, every camera does that, rather its how Panasonic combined the process of shooting stills/motion that when setup properly will transform how you create.
Photography is about creating, professional photography is about the business of creating. As a working pro, the faster I can create and deliver the faster I can grow my business and stand out in my market as a leader.
While some may look at the GH3 simply as a camera I see it as so much more. It's a tool for creation similar to when I was a kid and the box of crayons went from 16 to 64.
Some might argue that the GH3 is the future but its not. The Gh3 and Hybrid shooting is the now.
Setup Your GH3 Like a BOSS - Part 3 of 4 JPEG SettingsSetup Your GH3 Like a BOSS - Part 3 of 4 JPEG Settings
In part 3 of 4 we'll check out in detail how I use different JPEG settings for color, monochrome and aspect ratios...like a BOSS.
To see an AMAZING video on how to take control of what Will Crockett calls the "SuperFeatures" of the GH4 and GH4, please grab a copy of "The Insiders Guide to Setup the SuperFeatures of the Lumix GH3" available by unlimited streaming with all the other 22+ hybrid photo videos at:
http://thePHOTOchannel.pro

The GH3 comes with 7 picture profiles, the GH4 has a few more, but one of which is custom that you'll build and store in camera for latter use. The JPEG settings we'll go over in this video will give you a starting point to get the most out of color settings for stills and video capture. In addition to the JPEG settings you can also change the captured aspect ratio which when combined with the JPEG settings you'll create offers you near infinite shooting settings.
I love to get a nice warm film-like look, one monochrome and a cool toned monochrome setting which I detail in this video.
Setup Your GH3 Like a BOSS - Part 2 of 4 Quick MenuSetup Your GH3 Like a BOSS - Part 2 of 4 Quick Menu
In part 2 of 4 we dig into setting up the Lumix GH3's quick menu...like a BOSS.
Every time I shoot with the GH3 I use the quick menu...every time. The quick menu is great for recalling settings that you might otherwise dig into the main menu on a regular basis. Using the quick menu will save you time, help you with your shooting accuracy which of course makes you a more efficient photographer or as I like to say - makes you shoot like a BOSS
In part 2 of the GH3 BOSS series I dig into how I have the quick menu set up and why I do it.
Have you setup your quick menu yet? I highly recommend it. If you have let me know in the comments what works for you.
Setup Your GH3 Like a BOSS - Part 1 of 4 Function ButtonsSetup your GH3 like a BOSS - Part 1 of 4 Function Buttons
In this part 1 of 4 I detail why the Lumix GH3 is important in my work and how to set up each of the 7 custom function buttons like a BOSS with Guilio Sciorio.

Lumix 35-100mm lens on a GH3 signals end of Days for DSLR.In this Crockettville vlog post, Will Crockett shares the first take at the photo worlds new power trio of the Lumix GH3+12-35mm+35-100mm and why, hybrid minded pros at least, can listen closely and hear the death rattle of the DSLR rising over the chatter in the room. This pair of lenses will replace - yes REPLACE - our beloved 24-70mm f2.8 and the iconic 70-200 f2.8 Nikon / Canon lenses with smaller, lighter, tougher, sharper, less expensive lenses. It's not time for most of us to eBay off our Canon 5D's quite yet, but some of us sure can.
Some think that it's the mirrorless camera itself that will kill off the DSLR, but I don't think so. There are a few terrific pro level mirrorless cameras out now like the Fuji X Pro and the Olympus OMD but pros are still choosing full framed DSLRs instead at 3X the pricetag. It's all about the glass.... The 2 new constant aperture zooms from the Lumix folks are the backbreakers to the DSLR. As hybrid clicks confidently into mainstream imaging, the 12-35mm f 2.8 and the new 35-100mm f 2.8 zooms are now noted as glorious milestones in the evolution on photography.
How many times have we all struggled with the sheer size of the 70-200 f2.8's we cannot live without? Those days are gone.

New Panasonic GH3 comparison vs. GH2Video equipment Griffin uses: http://griffinhammond.com/gear

COMPARED TO THE GH2, THE GH3 has:

Bigger battery—1860mAh vs 1200 (but the battery charger is no longer wall-mountable)
Bigger neckstrap!
101-page user manual (319 in the extended digital PDF version)
Dedicated 1/8" Headphone jack, 1/8" Mic jack and remote jack
OLED touchscreen (614,000 dots) vs GH2's TFT (460,000 dots) with better touch sensitivity (capacitive, rather than resistive)
Three dials instead of one
Wi-fi (remote control from smartphone)
1080p60 at 50Mbps, and up to 72Mbps All-I shooting in 720p60, 1080p30 and 1080p24

Ballade in Louvain-la-Neuve, with the GH3After some tests not very relevant, today I made a walk in Louvain-la Neuve. <br />
This town could be renamed "Moire Hell" as every construction has an orange (or brown) brick wall.<br />
At the end I'm quite satisfied with the images. Yes you will notice moire (look at 1:51) but less than I expect.<br />
<br />
My conclusion for now : I go to NY in 3 months for 5 days only to shoot images and today I'm quite sure that I will choose the GH3 over the GH2 and 5D3 for this trip.<br />

Sunday In The Park - Panasonic GH3I received my copy on 12-2-2012 and the next day busted out the manual and did a little reading then off to Balboa Park to shoot some footage. I didn't really have a plan just wanted to see how the new GH3 performed. I also have the Lumix 35-100. Nice lens. All the footage is ungraded. I haven't tried to push it around yet in post, but from the looks of the image I have some room to work with. From what I can tell the camera handles highlights pretty well. The over-cranking looks nice and smooth. Nice feature to have on a DSLR.<br />
I'm writing up an article about my shooting experience with the GH3 on my blog. http://eriknaso.com/2013/03/02/my-gh3-has-arrived/<br />

So you probably wondering why I shot this in AVCHD at 24Mbps when I could have had the higher quality 72Mbps ALL-Intra? Well I forgot to change it back after shooting a little around the house. Oh well. I guess it's now the AVCHD 24Mpbs test!<br />

Synopsis:<br />
Do we know when senses play tricks on us? Is it in our mind, are we dreaming or is it really happening? <br />
{ loop } is a short narration, a senses circle, the sort of strange experience when thoughts are jumping from here to there and it seems like they don’t belong to you... and you don’t know where you came from, where you are or where to go to... <br />
<br />
// about { loop } <br />
<br />
Being a small and interesting camera, we thought that this is a sort of “indie-dream-camera” and have decided to make a short film. How else could we figure out if it’s any good? :)<br />
<br />
Our main idea was to make something low budget, with a small crew and less light gear, but to focus as much as possible on storytelling.<br />
So this is what we got: one actor, 3 locations, one gh3 and one camera operator, a tripod, a monopod and a slider, 2 assistants, some lights, sound gear, and thick clothes and gloves.<br />
Budget: some gas, 2 bottles of wine, ingredients for fake blood and a big pizza<br />

<br />
<br />
Buget: niste benzina, 2 sticle de vin, ingredientele pentru sangele fals si o pizza mare la pranz.<br />

Today I show you my review of the Panasonic Lumix DMC-GH3, a System-Camera with interchangeable Lenses.
Panasonic GH3 Hands-On Field TestThe Panasonic GH2 was enormously popular for its great still abilities, combined with astonishing video quality for the price. The new GH3 ups the stakes again, but with so many very capable competitors, can it still stand out? The Camera Store's Chris Niccolls takes a look at how the latest Micro 4/3 camera holds up.

8 reasons to choose Lumix GH3 for productionsHere are 8 reasons why we chose to use the Panasonic Lumix GH3 as our production camera on a 13 ep drama shoot. We shot in HD with 3 cameras (our cam C was actually the Panasonic GH2 - hacked).
How to make a timelapse video - GH3 TutorialHow to make a timelapse video from a sequence of pictures taken on a DSLR. We show you the workflow of setting up a camera (the Panasonic GH3 in this case) to take timelapse photos to creating a video out of the sequence of photos in Quicktime Pro 7.
Panasonic GH3 Tips and Tricks Guide - Custom SettingsPanasonic GH3 Setup Guide. This video will show you some Tips and Tricks for setting up your GH3. It focuses on setting up the Custom 1-5 settings. However, the very end of the video has several demonstrations of issues with the camera so make sure you watch it all the way through. If you like the video then please rate it and subscribe to my channel if you want to see more videos like it.
The GH3 has improved on almost everything over the GH2. However, its high ISO still quality is probably the biggest improvement and it is the reason I bought it.
The video is still as good or better than the GH2 in all of the modes that the GH2 had. However, the addition of the new 1080p @ 60 FPS .mov format allows me to shoot all of my low light videos with a single frame rate and resolution.
GH3 Auto vs Manual Video ControlI've received a lot of emails from customers confused about how to use the manual video settings on the Lumix GH3. In this short video I try to show the correct way to access and shoot video in either the auto or manual mode on the GH3.
This is a follow up to the videos that Carol Schlintz and I made that goes into more detail on the video formats and resolutions.
