A big goal of mine for this new studio is to get back to studying cinematic lighting techniques and implementing what I’m learning on the channel. Now that I have more space and higher ceilings, I can finally get some larger grip gear to build larger lighting setups. This video breaks down some of the new lighting setups I’ll be using going forward.

Open frames used to hold silk or even a Gel can be quite expensive. You can build your own fairly cheap with wood or PVC, but if you can spend a bit more these Aluminum Window Screen Frames are perfect. They are more lightweight, can break down, and look a lot better. The square flat tubing is perfect for any type of clip or clamp.

$75 DIY Camera SliderCan Kyle build a DIY camera slider in under 3 hours?
In this episode of Rhino Hacks, we tip our hats to Danish director Lars Von Trier and his "5 Obstructions" by giving Kyle a ridiculous challenge. "Ridiculous," you say? Of course it's ridiculous. Kyle never travels without his Rhino Slider Carbon Core (http://rhinocameragear.com/store/camera-sliders/rhino-slider-carbon-core-2ft).

DIY Diffusion Panels For Less Than $30As a product photographer, I use diffusion panels almost daily. I prefer the flexability and control I get from them over softboxes, and they're easy to store or pack flat for taking on location. Several companies have prefab "blades" intended for holding diffusion materials and fit nicely into grip heads/knuckles, but at nearly $100 a pop, buying several of them may not fit into everyone's budget. A friend showed me an easy way of making my own for a fraction of the cost, so I put together this video to show you the process.

Note: In the video I used a portion of Rosco #3008 diffusion material from a roll I had in the studio. This material is also available in pre-cut sheets for a few dollars each if you don't want to pony up for an entire roll.
