THESE are the incredible elephant nannies - who help raise orphan calves like they were their own babies. The British students and volunteers feed, clean and play with young elephants who have been abandoned by their mothers. Together they help provide 24-hour care to the captive herd at Knysna Elephant Park, in South Africa. They include Abigail Hearn, 24, from Brighton, PHD student Lisa Howard, 28, from Somerset, Melisa Dora, 25, from London and 21-year-old Paige White from Bristol.

Shirley and Jenny: Two Elephants Reunited After More Than 20 YearsNot a new story but worth watching again and again! So amazingly touching - the story of Shirley and Jenny, two crippled elephants reunited at The Elephant Sanctuary in Tennessee after a 22-year separation. The bonding was immediate, intense and unforgettable between the two former circus elephants.
Jenny and Shirley were both at the same circus when Jenny was a calf and Shirley was in her twenty's. They lived one winter together then were separated twenty-two years ago. It is very rare for elephants to display this kind of emotion in captivity, and it's probably the first time such a thing has been documented on film.

Jenny passed away peacefully October 17, 2006 surrounded by those she loved most ~ Shirley, Bunny, Tarra and her caregivers.

Cute baby elephant's first steps -and steps on his trunk! Hilarious video!Cute video of a baby elephant, two weeks old, getting used to standing upright and stepping on his trunk. Whipsnade Zoo, Bedfordshire, UK.
The Asiatic baby elephant was born on 12 April 2010 and the video clip was taken 2 weeks later. His mother is Karishma who was then12 years old. His weight was 124 kilos. Due to the little bent on his tail, he was unofficially nicknamed 'bent' by zoo staff but he was soon given his proper name 'George'.
London Zoo and Whipsnade Zoo are run by the Zoological Society of London (ZSL), a charity dedicated to the worldwide conservation of animals and their habitats.
