As a filmmaker when I discovered DaVinci early on in my career I knew that it would give me a tremendous advantage over others in improving the look of my films. I had done everything I felt like I could do in terms of lighting, lenses and other camera grip gear.
But then something happened in 2010 that completed changed everything in the industry.
I began using DaVinci Resolve when the first version came to the Mac starting with version 8. It has been a wild ride ever since granting me opportunities that I would not have had if I hadn't chosen such a professional tool with high-end color tools!
I didn't shy away from it and as a result I got to work on big projects for Facebook and Instagram as well as color grading different feature films using it.
If you are at that point where you are considering jumping over to DaVinci Resolve 16 with the intent in mind of improving the look of your films and having a skill set that sets you apart you have found the right place.
In this beginner to hero tutorial I hope that you find it as an easy entrance into using the software and not becoming intimidated. We don't want that for you!
If you like what you see and would like a step-by-step guide in going all the way through the software and discovering some of the hidden color grading secrets then I want to invite you to a free online color grading workshop:

Blackmagic Design DaVinci Resolve 16 Cut Page Tutorial 2019Heres our first in a series of DaVinci Resolve 16 professional 8K editing, color correction, visual effects and audio post production all in one software tool tutorials.
Grab a coffee and learn how to instantly move between editing, color, effects, and audio with a single click.
DaVinci Resolve Studio is also the only solution designed for multi user collaboration so editors, assistants, colorists, VFX artists and sound designers can all work live on the same project at the same time! Whether you’re an individual artist, or part of a large collaborative team, it’s easy to see why DaVinci Resolve is the standard for high end post production and finishing on more Hollywood feature films, television shows and commercials than any other software.
Today we will explore DaVinci Resolve 16 new revolutionary cut page specifically designed for editors that need to work quickly and on tight deadlines! The new DaVinci Neural Engine uses machine learning to enable powerful new features such as facial recognition, speed warp and more. Adjustment clips let you apply effects and grades to clips on the timeline below, quick export can be used to upload projects to YouTube and Vimeo from anywhere in the application, and new GPU accelerated scopes provide more technical monitoring options than before. Plus, Fusion is dramatically faster and Fairlight adds immersive 3D audio. DaVinci Resolve 16 is a massive release with hundreds of features customers have asked for!
When you need to work fast and you’re on a tight deadline, you need to use the cut page. Designed specifically for editors working on commercials, news and other short form, quick turn around projects, the cut page is all about speed. It’s an alternate edit page with a streamlined interface and revolutionary new tools that will help you work faster than ever. The cut page lets you import, edit, trim, add transitions, titles, automatically match color, mix audio and more. Whether you’re delivering for broadcast or for YouTube, the cut page has everything you need to get the job done, all in one place!
Non-linear editing on a computer hasn’t really changed in years. While the interfaces may differ from system to system, the core concepts and workflows have remained the same. The cut page challenges the traditional way of working with innovative, yet familiar concepts such as source tape mode and an A/B trim tool. Two modern features that are rooted in the past. The cut page isn’t about simplification, it’s about removing the things you don’t need and building powerful, professional tools that help you work more quickly. And, sometimes, it means borrowing the things that were great about the past and bringing them into the future!

ACES color Tutorial 1/2016 : Mixing multiple RRTs in an ACES "kind of" workflowACES gives us colorists amazing possibilities with seamless and losless workflows and look creation.
Grading on a Baselight system in ACES is a modern way of film style grading.
In this tutorial I explain a technique, that I discovered while grading my lates cinema feature film "Redha".
It is about the use and mix of different RRTs like e.g. "filmlight truelight video" and the "RRT1.0".
Why "kind of" workflow? Because the recommended ACES workflow works with AcesCC AP1 and the RRT1.0. In this video I show a more flexible way with more possibilities.
As mentioned in the video you can find great infos about the ACES technology and theory. But so far I couldn't find anyhting from a colorists perspective. Here we go...
I hope you like it and HAPPY GRADING!
Tip: Daniele Siragusano from Filmlight made probably the best ACES explanation video:

5 tips to help Premiere Pro editors edit with Davinci Resolve 12In this video, we will be discussing the main differences between Davinci Resolve 12 and Premiere Pro. To help editors who are used to Premiere, transition to Resolve easier and faster.
Noise Reduction Tools and Techniques in DaVinci ResolveI recommend watching this in full screen at 1080p in order to most accurately see the noise issues discussed (as much as they're visible after compression upon compression).
In this color correction tutorial, I cover the ins and outs of noise reduction in DaVinci Resolve. We start by looking at a particularly noisy shot and analyzing just what noise you may encounter in a noise reduction scenario. From there we take a look at the internal Resolve tools (only available for Resolve Studio), I also cover alternative 3rd party options (Neat Video OFX). Finally, I cover techniques to get passable noise reduction without any plugins at all.
If you have Resolve Lite and want to learn how to do noise reduction without a plugin, skip to 30:22.
