Andy IronsFive years ago we lost but have not forgotten Andy Irons.
Andy's legacy lives and gains significance as time carries on.
RIP Andy Irons
Philip Andrew Irons July 24, 1978 - November 2nd, 2010 (aged 32)
Ranked 1st on the ASP World Tour, 2002, 2003 and 2004, Quiksilver Pro France Champion (2003, 2004, 2005)
Rip Curl Pro Search title (2006 & 2007)
Sponsors: Billabong, Von Zipper, Nixon Watches, Kustom Footwear, Dakine
He was inducted into the Surfing Walk of Fame in Huntington Beach, California in 2008.
Billabong produced an "Andy Irons" line of board shorts.
Rival surfer and friend Kelly Slater dedicated his November 6, 2010 victory to Irons. "I just want to send my condolences to Andy's family," Slater said. "I'm a little overwhelmed right now but I want to dedicate this to Andy... It's like exact opposites. This doesn't really offset that, I'd give this title away in a second if Andy could come back." Slater also wrote a candid remembrance honoring the life of Andy Irons on the anniversary of his death (http://bit.ly/1lduxsR); it was also the same day that Slater claimed his 11th ASP World Title in San Francisco, CA.
He and his family hosted the Annual Irons Brothers Pinetrees Classic, a contest for youngsters.
The Governor of Hawaii declared February 13 forever "Andy Irons Day". He is the only surfer to have won a title at every venue on the ASP/WSL calendar.

TAJ BURROW TUBE PIGSurfing: Taj Burrow
Surfing Footage: Tom Jennings
Made by: Joe & Noah Alani
Next in line of our continuing collaboration with Taj, is the aptly named “Tube Pig”. This one came about in 2014, when building a quiver for Taj to ride at home. We made a handful of boards specifically built to with stand beatings from, and perform on, the battering wind-buffed barrels of his beloved beach breaks and radical reefs. Not concerned with contests, ultra-light weights, or whipping airs and “finners", we built a bit of substance into a few boards hoping they would last in the demanding conditions. One board in particular was at 5’9” 18.32” 2.25” and 25 liters of volume. Featuring a pronounced round pin tail, with narrower than average hip and a slightly wider than typical nose, it ooozed of drive. Married to the outline is a typical high performance rocker, but with less concave throughout, which runs the rail rocker pretty parallel to the stringer line. This results in no radical curves or breaks in the rail line. One not so noticeable feature that really adds to the effectiveness of this design, is that the nose is just slightly thicker than the tail at both the 12” and 24” marks. This really seems to add both paddle power and drive off the front foot. Individually these features are all pretty subtle. Unlike The Round-Up/Rock-Up, and other exaggerated shortened step-ups, they are not strikingly different looing…But all combined, the whole became greater than the sum of its parts. On the first one I wrote a note along the stringer of the first "Tube Shooter”. During a recent run of swell in WA, a series of exasperatingly excited texts poured in from TB. Claims like… ”I am not sure if it interests you or not, but this is the best board I have ever ridden in the tube. It’s a real Tube Pig. The thickness lets me in early and it knifes in solid tubes better than any shorty would. Paddle power to catch them, but the short little board fits in the curve better than a gun, and still holds in”. Accompanied with the texts was a relentless assault of gloriously lit videos and photos from Taj’s last couple weeks of surfing. That was enough for me. The Tube Pig... by Taj Burrow. Now...when it’s firing, everyone can go out and make a pig of themselves. Meant to be ridden about the same size, or just a bit longer as your normal board, but mainly for those powerful pumping days in hollow beach breaks and reefs at home…or on the road.
Teaser: Now And TomorrowWhat does the future of Australian surfing look like? Can we continue our dominance on the WSL while under siege from Brazilians, Europeans, Americans, Japanese and Hawaiians? Tracks recently travelled to the Mentawai Islands with seven, young Aussie competitors who are making the transition from the cosy corners of junior surfing to the unforgiving realm of the WQS. Introducing Shaun Manners, Cody Robinson, Monty Tait, Reef Heazlewood, Quinn Bruce, Kalani Ball and Jared Hickel. The destiny of Australian surfing is in their hands.

DEUS SLIDETOBER FEST 2015 – SURF DAY 02The 5th annual Deus Slidetober Fest was held from 16-18 October 2015. As is
customary, the day of surfing took place on Pereranan Beach and was an
opportunity to ride and experiment on some of Deus’ finest surfboards. Once
again, we were gifted with the exemplary surf that Bali is renowned for. Every
man, woman and his/her dog joined in the revelry.
Beginning with a pool of 40, the surfers were slowly whittled down to a final of
four. The final four included: Harrison Roach, Jared Mell, Chris McHutchinson,
Tomohisa Yoshikawa. On a dropping tide with challenging conditions, Harrison
bagged the win.
You’ve seen the imagery, now you can feast your eyes on the day’s film
highlights. Enjoy.

That Day in NazaFew days ago, and before the last big swell, all Portuguese Coast was dead boring flat, well... all except one place. That day in Naza started with a phone call, 100 miles down the road and a crew with no expectations.
We've been working with pro-surfer Pedro Boonman for a while now, mostly doing experimental drone angles and exploring possibilities from the air during his free surf sessions, he's the kind of guy that is always up for a challenge and we like that, one time he even jumped from a cliff because we thought it would give a nice drone shot (it sucked).
This clip features some of our new angles, unfortunately we missed Boonman's best waves during this session, but next time there's a flat forecast, we'll be there. After all Naza is not just about Giants.
Special thanks to all the people of Nazaré and the local crew in Praia do Norte.

"Day Glo,
Chrome window,
Shapes in the clouds,
the hungry shoosh for miles around,
upstream, jumpin' out of the water,
gills in the air,
I got many people to thank,
but I can't write letters,
I can't write letters.
My friends on the edge of the old graveyard,
they sit on an old grey porch,
and watch foxes play,
and juggle wine,
the kind of wine that you don't mind spillin',
that you don't mind spillin'.
Well I fill out the forms and I make my death come slowly.
One at a time some kind of record unrollin'.
'You best begin sometime,' she said, 'but you can't start until you're ready.'
Yet it seemed to be controlled,
somehow bowed her fingernails, eyelashes and all the essential parts.
We talk about dreams a lot.
She reads our fortunes out loud,
I think it's funny and I go stay with her,
and I go stay with her,
and I don't mind dyin',
when I make love to her,
to her, to her.
Day Glo.
Under a wall of sound,
a riverbed of clay,
the distance between us stays,
close, but not close,
far, but not too far,
away.
Close, but not close,
far, but not too far,
away.
