Firefighters Find Marijuana Grow Operation During House Fire - Modesto, CaliforniaThis evening at around 8:15 p.m. the Stanislaus Consolidated Fire Department was dispatched to a house on Tenaya Dr. near Empire Ave. in the Airport District of Modesto, California for reports of a house on fire.
When crews arrived they found fire and flames coming from the rear of the home. Upon further investigation they found that the fire was contained to a detached shed. The fire was threatening several other structures all around it.
Firefighters were able to bring the fire under control saving the surrounding homes utilizing 3 engine companies, 1 truck company, and 2 Battalion Chiefs.
When firefighters entered the shed they found a large amount of marijuana which appeared to be part of a grow operation. The shed was being used for drying and storing the drugs which is part of the production process of marijuana.
Firefighters called the Stanislaus County Sheriff's Department to inform them of the find and 2 Deputies were sent to the scene along with a Fire Investigator to begin the criminal investigation.
The home appears to be a lived in residence however the occupants of the house were not present at the time of the fire. When and if they return, they are sure to face a lot of tough questions from Deputies.
Modesto News .org was there on the scene and is the only news agency to bring you footage of the incident along with an interview with Battalion Chief Rick Bussell of Stanislaus Consolidated Fire.

MARIJUANA BECOMES LEGAL IN CALIFORNIA News Story 11-01Proposition 215 in 1996 effectively made marijuana legal in California. But within the first five years after enactment, 215's fuzziness led to a wide open market where anyone complaining of anything from asthma to "discomfort" could get a "prescription" for some of the most powerful hallucinogens available. This ground-breaking story began to tell the story.

With a kind of marijuana legalization on the ballot in California as Proposition 19 this November, it's not surprising to see our friends at Fox picking up the pace on the marijuana misinformation in a series called "Going to Pot" that included a segment rebutting a straw man argument for marijuana legalization with a very weak anti-legalization argument and went on to spread a series of anti-marijuana myths while purporting to debunk pro-legalization "myths" as I show in this video.

2 Day Tour: Fresno County Sheriff, Medical Marijuana EradicationMedical Marijuana Cultivation
In California's Central Valley
Poses Serious Risk to Public Health
Medical Marijuana May Expose Consumers to Dangerous
Bacteria and Fungus; Doctors Should Be Held Accountable
Los Angeles, September 17, 2012 -- Following a two-day tour with Lieutenant Rick Ko of the Fresno County Sheriff's Department, Alexandra Datig has given her eyewitness account of California's Central Valley marijuana grows. Today, Datig released a documented account of what she saw on the opinion page "Nip It In The Bud USA" (www.nipitinthebudusa.org). The short documentary is also available on YouTube.
Datig said; "California's medical marijuana laws have been exposed as a scam. Under existing laws, no one is held accountable, while California has become the marijuana trafficking capitol of the United States. Ninety percent of California's marijuana is being exported to other states and other countries. All this, made possible mostly through recommendations by California doctors."
John Lovell, lobbyist for the California Narcotics Officer's Association and the California Police Chiefs Associations saw the footage and said; "Every policy maker should be required to see it."
Calvina Fay, Executive Director of Drug Free America Foundation and Save Our Society From Drugs had this to say: "This video reveals very specific public health risks associated with the cultivation of marijuana. It shows that patients may be unknowingly ingesting dangerous toxins. We definitely need more resources like this video to help educate the public about the widespread contamination caused by these criminal enterprises."
Former Los Angeles City Councilman and California State Senator Nate Holden, who served on the Board of Public Safety with the City of Los Angeles for eight years, saw the presentation and said; "The FDA and the USDA is now aware how medical marijuana is being cultivated in an unsafe and unhealthy environment. They should immediately take action to protect the health, safety and welfare of our citizens and eradicate these marijuana grows and jail the cultivators who put in jeopardy our health, safety and welfare."
What Law Defines Legality of Medical Marijuana in California?http://www.kcet.org/shows/socal_connected/content/interview/california-supreme-court-considering-whether-city-state-or-federal-law-defines-legality-of-medical-m.html
Under California law, it's legal to buy medical marijuana, but it's not so under federal law. That's why some localities have banned pot shops.
California's highest court heard arguments Tuesday over whether cities can do that. In essence, the court will decide, when it comes to medical marijuana, whether federal or state laws prevail here in California, and whether cities can regulate dispensaries through zoning laws.
