Growing Up Transgender and Mormon | Short Film ShowcaseEri Hayward was born as a boy in Utah and raised in the Church of Latter-Day Saints. Filmmaker Torben Bernhard shot this poignant short, Transmormon, just before Eri flew to Thailand for sexual reassignment surgery. In the piece, she and her family talk about the long and often painful journey it took to recognize and embrace her transgender identity and the role their faith played along the way. "Being LDS was our life," she says. "It's one of the reasons I didn't find out about what being trans was until I was an adult."

Becoming Julia (Gender Transition Documentary) - Real StoriesCheck out our new website for more incredible documentaries: HD and ad-free. https://goo.gl/LwMcmY
In this intimate and personal portrait, we follow Paul, a single, straight bus driver of 37, as he undergoes a gender transition to begin living as a woman called Julia. At first glance, Paul comes across as a regular, affable and blokey man with a passion for racing cars and farming, but inside it is a different story. Despite living and looking like a man, Paul has always felt like a woman.
Filmed over a two year period, this revealing and intimate documentary explores the deconstruction and reconstruction of a person with unflinching humour and surprise, turning upside down all the stereotypes about what makes a man and what makes a woman. With endearing honesty and a strong determination not to fall into pre-ordained expectations, Julia gives us an engaging account of the everyday difficulties involved in going through a sex change.
Ultimately this film is not about being the perfect woman or man, but about living honestly and in your own unique way.

Transgenders: Pakistan's Open Secret (LGBT Documentary) - Real StoriesCheck out our new website for more incredible documentaries: HD and ad-free. https://goo.gl/LwMcmY
Flamboyant, colourful and eccentric, many among Pakistan's marginalised transgender community scrape a living through dancing, singing and begging on the streets of the country’s economic capital, Karachi. Many others, though, earn money catering for the sexual needs of local men in the city's seedier districts.
Investigating a never-before-seen side of life in Pakistan, this film from Oscar and EMMY award-winning director Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy follows the stories of three transgender people, who each represent a different way of life in the country. Maggie is a prostitute who dreams of becoming an air hostess, while Chahat was abandoned by her middle-class family to beg on the streets. Sana is Karachi's most sought-after transgender dancer, desperate to give up the profession after a particularly gruesome gang rape. Is there any hope for these courageous individuals who want to stand out on their own?
With exclusive access, this cutting-edge film goes behind the scenes of the transgender community to uncover the truth behind Pakistan’s Open Secret.
Official Selection, United Nations Association Film Festival

Transgender Kids (LGBT Documentary) - Real StoriesCheck out our new website for more incredible documentaries: HD and ad-free. https://goo.gl/LwMcmY
From the moment we're born, our gender identity is no secret. We're either a boy or a girl. Gender organises our world into pink or blue. As we grow up, most of us naturally fit into our gender roles. Girls wear dresses and play with dolls. For boys, it's trousers and toy cars. But for some children, what's between their legs doesn't match what's between their ears - they insist they were born into the wrong body. They are transgender children, diagnosed with gender identity disorder, or gender dismorphia, and their parents insist this is not a phase.
Most transgender children still live in the shadows, hiding from a world that sees them as freaks of nature. Rejected by their families, many grow up hating their bodies, and fall victim to high rates of depression, drug abuse and even suicide. Today, hundreds of families with transgender children - who have found each other over the Internet - are taking a dramatically different course. They're allowing their children to live in the gender they identify with, in order to save them from a future of heartache and pain.
In this shocking yet touching film, we will follow the lives of four transgender children to discover what it is like to realize you were born in the wrong body so young. We will find out how young children change their apparent gender and how families cope with having a transgender child.
