New Pedestrian Bridge Over DC 295On Friday, August 13, 2010, with a rush of happy children, the District Department of Transportation (DDOT) opened a new pedestrian bridge over DC 295. The old bridge had to be removed to make way for the widening of the highway, part of the 11th Street Bridge Project. The new bridge restores an important - and safe - link between the historic Anacostia neighborhood and the pool and fitness center in Anacostia Park.
11th Street Bridge Project (HD)The District Department of Transportation (DDOT) has begun construction on the 11th Street Bridge Project. This $300 million effort is the largest infrastructure project DDOT has ever undertaken. It will replace the 2 existing spans with 3 new bridges: 2 for freeway traffic and one reserved for local traffic. The local bridge will also have a wide mixed use path for bikes and pedestrians and streetcar tracks for the District's planed streetcar network.
