Angelica received a bad combination of blood pressure medication and anesthesia when she was born. As a result she suffered a severe brain injury. The youngest of five, she and her mother came to China when she was nine months old. 
 
We met Roxanne and Angelica just before their return home. We were very surprised by their story. 
 
After the treatment her mother said "I just felt like I had four boys and a handicapped child. Now I have a little girl."
Macie Morse - ONH (2nd Treatment) Macie Morse received her first round of stem cells in 2008 to treat blindness caused by optic nerve hypoplasia. After this treatment her vision had improved to a level where she could get her driver's license. 
 
We caught up with Macie and her mother during a second round of adult stem cell treatments in 2010. 
 
Macie's story has been covered extensively by international news outlets. In 2008 a US television production crew attempted an intervention to prevent Macie from coming the first time. 
 
Macie's parents raised her without teaching her Braille or focusing much on her blindness. At 15, Macie did not know her visual abilities would keep her out of fighter-pilot school, F1 competition and all other normal driving activities. 
 
These interviews were shot while Macie and her family were staying at the hospital in Qingdao.
Michaela Sky - CP (Secondary Dystonia) Michaela Sky, 11, has received two cycles of umbilical cord blood stem cells in China as of 2011. Her parents continuously search for new means of improving their daughter's quality of life. They see the stem cell treatments as having provided improvements to her core strength, muscle tone and control amongst other things.

Matt Elam - Optic Nerve Atrophy Matt has been able to do a lot in life in spite of optic nerve atrophy. All his life he's suffered from very limited vision. His vision didn't keep him from playing professional football but it did keep him from reading to his kids at night.

Riccardo - Hypoxic Brain Injury Stem Cell Patient Riccardo suffered ischemic hypoxia at birth. Without oxygen, he developed a cerebral edema.

Valerie Dolan - Optic Nerve Atrophy Stem Cell Patient Valerie Dolan woke one morning to find her vision seriously deteriorated. Claire came to China in 2008 to receive spinal injections of umbilical cord blood stem cells for the treatment of a spinal cord injury she sustained in a boating accident. 
 
When Claire arrived in China she had plateaued in her physically therapy back home in Australia and was looking for a new therapy to help her continue onward. With no movement in her legs, no sweat function and very little sensation she began receiving injections of umbilical cord blood stem cells. 
 
After a full round of injections Claire had begun to walk without her crutches and had begun to move one of her toes. Months after the therapy she regained sweat function below her injury site.

Jeff Crowe - Ataxia Stem Cell Patient Jeff Crowe has Ataxia, an hereditary genetic disorder affecting his nervous system. He came to China to receive adult stem cell therapy in the hopes of improving his condition and to push the hands on the clock back a bit. 
 
People with Ataxia are often mistaken for being very drunk. Their speech can be slurred. They can appear clumsy and uncoordinated. They suffer double-vision, dizziness and difficulties with depth perception.

Christopher "Kit" Bond - Spinal Cord Injury Stem Cell Patient Kit Bond knows the most advanced stem cell therapies available to spinal cord injury patients as both a researcher and a patient. 
 
This video was shot near the end of his second round of umbilical cord blood stem cell transplants in Qingdao China. His very first treatment involved stem cell implantation along his spine in Portugal.

Septo-optic dysplasia leads to many complications--including blindness. While the BBC program focused on her vision, the Clarke family still claims that they've witnessed numerous improvements in her overall health including her vision.

Dakota Clarke Returns Dakota "Cody" Clarke returned to China for a second cycle of adult stem cell treatments in 2010. News media, including the BBC, covered their first journey extensively. 
 
Cody has Septo Optic Dysplasia stemming from a malformation of the midline of the brain. SOD can lead to numerous developmental and physical challenges. Some people are much more affected by the condition than others. 
 
Cody's parents were dismayed by what they saw as a very negative portrayal of the treatments. They saw eight or nine significant changes in her condition, occurring during or immediately after the treatments, which her doctors at home would only describe as "coincidences". For her family, the accumulation of these coincidences around stem cell treatments have not been insignificant to her quality of life today.

Carlos Tesch - TBI Stem Cell Patient Carlos was born healthy and had wonderful young life. When he was 12 he suffered a crushing traumatic brain injury. Kyle and Rayanna -- SMA II Adult Stem Cell Patients Kyle Knopes and Rayanna Seffens were accompanied by family as they traveled to Qingdao China to receive transplants of donated umbilical cord blood stem cells to treat symptoms of the genetic condition Spinal Muscular Atrophy Type 2 (SMA II).

David Returns to China for Treatment David Aldrich fell off a boat into shallow water. He suffered a spinal cord injury in the fall. Then he floated face-down in the water unable to breathe. Through his recovery David would eventually "die" eight times. He lost his vision as well. 
 
Death couldn't hold him. David kept coming back. In 2006 David reversed a DNR order while suffering from appendicitis when he learned his family had arranged for him to travel to China for adult stem cell therapy. 
 
During David's first cycle of transplants he made significant improvement including black/white restoration to his vision. After the treatment he pushed his physical therapy regimen hard and saw continued improvements in his condition.
