Gay activist says Uganda LGBTQ community 'in shock' at new law • FRANCE 24 EnglishMembers of Uganda's LGBTQ community are in shock and fear being arrested after parliament passed a new law that makes it a crime to identify as gay, and imposes tough sentences that include the death penalty in certain cases, an activist said on Wednesday. The "Anti-Homosexuality Bill, 2023" was passed with a near-unanimous majority by lawmakers in the east African country where anti-gay sentiment runs deep.

AQYI Fueling Digital Activism Training in West AfricaTo prepare new and emerging LGBT+ youths in Africa, we launched the Fueling Digital Activism project to empower them with the training, skills, and resources they need to launch digital non-violent campaigns for human rights on the continent. The first phase of the training was in East Africa and the second phase, captured in this video, was conducted in West Africa. A civil rights activist at Equal Namibia, Omar van Reenen, stated that some government officials have encouraged stigmatisation against the LGBTIQ+ community where they incite hate and violence towards them.
Reenen stated that the government has gone back on its promise to uphold equality especially for the LGBTIQ+ community.

MawuLisa Fellowship Program TrainingLBT+ women in French-speaking West Africa are underrepresented in the broader LGBT movement. To help address this issue, the AQYI launched the MawuLisa fellowship program to provide technical support, capacity building, and financial support up to $5000 to young and emerging LBT+ women in West Africa. On the 11th and 12th of January 2021, the selected fellows gathered safely in Lagos, Nigeria, for days of training, networking, and strategy formulation.
Africa's Madonna: Kat Kol-KesSelf-styled as an African Madonna, Katlego K Kol-Kes is a poet and author of her debut anthology "...on about the same old things". A well known Trans* ARTivist originally from Botswana, Katlego is Bahati Books author and she is currently based in London as a Chevening Scholar. Katlego actively pushes the boundaries of comfortability, acceptability and knowing through her written and performed art. Her debut poetry collection, "...on about the same old things" is the first in a series exploring the experiences of queer identifying Africans.
