Bobby Vee - Take Good Care Of My Baby - 1961This was Bobby Vee's first and only #1 hit. Released on August 7th,1961, it immediately began to climb up the Billboard Charts, and by September 18th, 1961 it had reached #1, staying there for three weeks. It is no surprise, given it was written by the legendary Brill Building songwriting team of Gerry Goffin and Carole King, the song featured an irresistible melody along with inspired and sincere lyrics. Add to that an equally sincere and strong vocal performance by Bobby Vee and you have one of the greatest hits of all time.
I had the pleasure and honor of meeting Bobby Vee after a show four years ago, and he took the time to talk to my wife and I, and to sign a rare EP from Barcelona, Spain. He even commented that he had never seen it before. He also signed other items and took pictures, showing us what a kind and down-to-earth guy he really is. I'm glad I got the opportunity to shake his hand and to thank him for all the musical pleasure he had provided us over the years. So in his honor I give you this humble video.

Lyrics / Letra Ray Charles Hit The Road Jack
------------------------------------------------------------
(Hit the road Jack and don't you come back no more, no more, no more, no more.)
(Hit the road Jack and don't you come back no more.)
What you say?
(Hit the road Jack and don't you come back no more, no more, no more, no more.)
(Hit the road Jack and don't you come back no more.)
Woah Woman, oh woman, don't treat me so mean,
You're the meanest old woman that I've ever seen.
I guess if you said so
I'd have to pack my things and go. (That's right)
(Hit the road Jack and don't you come back no more, no more, no more, no more.)
(Hit the road Jack and don't you come back no more.)
What you say?
(Hit the road Jack and don't you come back no more, no more, no more, no more.)
(Hit the road Jack and don't you come back no more.)
Now baby, listen baby, don't ya treat me this-a way
Cause I'll be back on my feet some day.
(Don't care if you do 'cause it's understood)
(you ain't got no money you just ain't no good.)
Well, I guess if you say so
I'd have to pack my things and go.
Well
(don't you come back no more.)
Uh, what you say?
(don't you come back no more.)
I didn't understand you
(don't you come back no more.)
You can't mean that
(don't you come back no more.)
Oh, now baby, please
(don't you come back no more.)
What you tryin' to do to me?
(don't you come back no more.)
Oh, don't treat me like that
(don't you come back no more.)

Best known for her breathy, little-girl singing voice, Sue Thompson had several novelty pop hits in the early '60s before reinventing herself as a more mature country singer in the mid-'70s. Thompson was born Eva Sue McKee in Nevada, MO, in 1925 and was singing cowgirl songs and playing guitar on-stage by the age of seven. After her family moved to San Jose, she appeared on the local Hometown Hayride TV show during her teens. She worked in a defense plant during World War II, then married and had a daughter at age 20; however, the marriage lasted only three years, and she subsequently returned to performing in northern California clubs. Her winning performance at a San Jose talent contest caught the attention of singer Dude Martin, who was also a bandleader and radio/TV host. Martin invited her to join his band and became her husband not long after; the two recorded some duets, and "If You Want Some Lovin'" helped Thompson land her first solo deal with Mercury. Meanwhile, Martin added singer/comedian Hank Penny to his revue in 1952; within a year, Thompson divorced Martin and married Penny, and the two hosted a TV show in Los Angeles for two years before moving to Las Vegas to work the casinos. They recorded separately and together for Decca but failed to land any major hits.
Thompson signed with Hickory Records in 1960 and landed two Top Five pop hits the following year with the John D. Loudermilk-penned novelty tunes "Sad Movies (Make Me Cry)" and "Norman." Two more Loudermilk numbers, 1962's "James (Hold the Ladder Steady)" and 1965's "Paper Tiger," brought her further success. During this era, Thompson played effectively to the teen audience thanks to her cute, extremely young-sounding voice, despite the fact that she was pushing 40. She recorded sporadically through the remainder of the '60s, without finding similar success. In 1972, she teamed up with country singer Don Gibson for three duet albums over the next two years; some of their songs charted respectably, in particular "I Think They Call It Love" and "Oh, How Love Changes." Thompson also managed a few solo hits during this period, the biggest of which was "Big Mable Murphy." Her last chart single came in 1976 with "Never Naughty Rosie," and she subsequently concentrated on the Las Vegas casino circuit. She remarried once again and later moonlighted as an MC at North Hollywood's famed Palomino Club for a time. She settled in Las Vegas permanently and performed from time to time in the '90s.

Ricky Nelson - Travelin' Man 1961Ricky Nelson - Travelin' Man 1961
Lyrics:
I'm a travelin' man
and I've made a lotta stops
all over the world
And in every port
I own the heart of at least one lovely girl
I've a pretty senorita
waitin' for me down in old Mexico
And if you're ever in Alaska
stop and see my cute little Eskimo
Oh my sweet fräulien
down in Berlin town
makes my heart start to yearn
And my China doll
down in old Hong Kong
waits for my return
Pretty Polynesian baby over the sea
I remember the night
When we walked in the sands of Waikiki
and I held you oh so tight
Oh, I'm a travelin' man
Yes, I'm a travelin' man
Yes, I'm a travelin' man
Woe, I'm a travelin' man
The Miracles - Shop AroundHere is a pioneering Tamla Motown record from 1960: 'Shop Around'by The Miracles. It is notable as being the label's first #1 hit on the Billboard magazine R&B singles chart, and also hit #2 on the Hot 100 (#1 pop, Cashbox). This history-making song is also noted for being the first million-selling record of The Miracles' and The Motown Record Corporation, as well as a 2006 Grammy Hall of Fame inductee.
It was written by Berry Gordy and Smokey Robinson and two versons were actually recorded, the first being a bluesy version designed for local release, and this one being the nationaly released version designed to be more commercially viable outside of 'Motortown' but it still is a great Detroit soul track.
The Miracles (known from 1965 to 1972 as Smokey Robinson & the Miracles) is an American rhythm and blues group from Detroit, Michigan, notable as the first successful group act for Berry Gordy's Motown Records. The Miracles went on to become one of Motown's signature acts of the 1960s, during which time their original lead singer and founding member Smokey Robinson became one of the most successful songwriters and record producers of all time.
I will be uploading some more Smokey Robinson and The Miracles tracks later, so for the meanwhile enjoy this irresistable number!

Brook Benton - The Boll Weevil SongBrook Benton, Benjamin Franklin Peay, was born on September 19, 1931 in Lugoff, South Carolina. When Peay was young he enjoyed gospel music and wrote songs. So in 1948 he went to New York to pursue his music career. He went in and out of gospel groups such as The Langfordaires, The Jerusalem Stars, and The Golden Gate Quartet. Returning to his home state, he joined a R&B singing group, The Sandmen, and went back to New York to get a big break with his group. The Sandmen had limited success, and their label, Okeh Records, decided to push Peay as a solo artist, changing his name to Brook Benton, apparently at the suggestion of label executive Marv Halsman.
Brook earned a good living writing songs and co-producing albums. He wrote songs for artists such as Nat King Cole, Clyde McPhatter (for whom he wrote the hit "A Lover's Question"), and Roy Hamilton. Soon he released his first minor hit, "A Million Miles from Nowhere". Later he went on to the Mercury label, which would eventually bring him larger success.
Finally in 1959 he made his breakthrough with his hits "It's Just a Matter of Time" and "Endlessly". "It's Just a Matter of Time" peaked at #3 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 chart, while "Endlessly" made it to #12. Both of the first two hits were written by Benton with Clyde Otis. They were originally offered to Nat King Cole, but when Otis became an A&R official at Mercury, he convinced Benton to sign with the label and record them himself, while asking Cole not to record the songs as planned. He followed this success with a series of hits, including "So Many Ways" (#6), "Hotel Happiness" (#3), "Think Twice" (#11), "Kiddio" (#7), and "The Boll Weevil Song" (#2). In 1960, he had two top 10 hit duets with Dinah Washington: "Baby (You've Got What It Takes)" (#5) and "A Rockin' Good Way (To Mess Around and Fall in Love)" (#7).
He also recorded his own version of "Take Good Care of Her" in 1962. In the mid- and late 1960's, Benton recorded for RCA Records and Reprise Records with minimal commercial success. In 1969 he signed with Cotillion Records, a subsidiary of Atlantic Records, where the next year he had his last major hit with "Rainy Night in Georgia".
Benton eventually charted 49 singles on the Billboard Hot 100, with other songs charting on Billboard's rhythm and blues, easy listening, and Christmas music charts. The last album made by Benton was Fools Rush In, which was released posthumously in 2005. At one point he was recording on Groove Records.
Brook died of complications from spinal meningitis in Queens, New York City, at the age of 56 on April 9, 1988. ~SOURCE: Wikipedia

Who Put The Bomp - Barry MannThe single debuted on Billboard's Hot 100 on August 7, 1961, and remained for twelve weeks, peaking at # 7[3]. Mann's version did not chart in the UK, though a cover version by the Viscounts reached # 21 there in September, 1961, and another version by Showaddywaddy charted at # 37 in August, 1982.
"Who Put the Bomp (in the Bomp, Bomp, Bomp)" is a Doo-wop style hit song from 1961 co-written (with Gerry Goffin) and recorded by Barry Mann. He was backed up by The Halos, who had previously backed up Curtis Lee on the song "Pretty Little Angel Eyes". The song was originally released as a single on the ABC-Paramount label (10237).
In this song, Mann sings about the frequent use of nonsense lyrics in Doo-Wop music, and how his girl fell in love with him after listening to several of such songs.
Examples of the type of song referred to include the Marcels' version of "Blue Moon" (in which they sing "Bomp bomp ba bomp, ba bomp ba bomp bomp" and "dip-de-dip-de-dip") and the Edsels' "Rama-Lama-Ding-Dong", both of which charted earlier the same year.
The song inspired the title of a music magazine, called "Who Put the Bomp".
The song fits into the category of "self-referential" songs. Rock songs are often about rock (We're gonna rock around the clock), reggae songs about reggae, rap songs about rap, etc. In this particular song that aspect is accentuated by the fact that Mann is a songwriter singing about songwriters.
It is also an ironic, lightly self-mocking song. This is a frequent phenomenon in popular music, M's "Pop Muzik" being an example (Wikipedia).

Ferlin Husky - Wings of a Dove (Grand Ole Opry)He was born on December 3, 1925 on a farm that was located equally close to Flat River, Hickory Grove and Cantwell, Missouri, just about 75 miles from St. Louis. As a young boy he wanted to become a singer and make records, maybe even appearing on the Grand Ole Opry. There is a story that says he (or his father) traded a hen with a neighbor in exchange for a guitar. The deal was cancelled, however, when the hen failed to lay any eggs! Nevertheless, he did learn to play guitar, doing so locally at church functions and amateur competitions.
These dreams, however, had to wait until after he served his country in World War II. After serving five years in the Merchant Marines, Ferlin returned home in 1947 to Missouri where he went to work with Smiley Burnette on St. Louis radio station KXLW. Eventually, he ended up in Salinas, California, performing with local performer/radio personality Big Jim DeNoone.
Ferlin Husky's first recordings were done for Bill McCall's Four Star Records. Under the name "Terry Preston," he recorded his first single, "Remembrance of Franklin D/Ozark Waltz". Eight more singles were to follow on this label. In 1951, he was added to the cast of Cliffie Stone's TV program "Hometown Jamboree," replacing Tennessee Ernie Ford. Stone was so impressed by Ferlin's talent that he brought him to Capitol Records in 1952. Five songs were released, including "Undesired" and "Gone". None of these songs were hits. Ferlin's father and his producer, Ken Nelson, did not like his choice of the name of "Terry Preston." They didn't feel that it was very masculine and that it was unfitting for a country music singer. Therefore, he returned to his given name, using the spelling "Huskey" until 1957.
Despite the change, he had no real success until 1953, when he teamed up with a young Bakersfield singer named Jean Shepard. Their first hit was "A Dear John Letter", which was about a soldier who was jilted by his girlfriend. Since the Korean War ended in the summer of that year, it was no surprise that their song was Number One in the country charts for six weeks and reached Number Four in the pop charts. The pair's follow-up, "Forgive Me John", also made it to the Top Ten, thus launching both of their careers. The next big hit for Husky was "I Feel Better All Over (More Than Anywhere Else)", which reached Number Six. The flip-side, "Little Tom", also made it into the Top Ten.
In order to compete with the success of Rock and Roll, Ken Nelson made the decision to re-record "Gone" with the Nashville Sound. He removed the steel guitar and the fiddle, replacing them with a modest rhythm section and the background voices of Millie Kirkham and the Jordanaires. The change was so extreme that even some disc jockeys refused to play the song. However, by 1957, "Gone" reached Number One on the country charts, and held that position for ten weeks. It also made it to Number Four on the pop charts, becoming a true "crossover" success. Some have even called it the first hit song with the Nashville Sound. The trend continued with the release of Jim Reeves "Four Walls" later the same year.
The next Number One hit for Ferlin was the Gospel song "Wings of a Dove". It stayed ten weeks at Number One in 1960. He had few minor hits in the early sixties, with "Once" reaching Number Four in 1967, and "Just For You" doing the same the following year. This was his last Top Ten record on the Capitol label.
In 1973, Ferlin left Capitol and signed with ABC Records. His only major hit with ABC was "Rosie Cries A Lot", which was in the Top 20 in 1973. He continued performing on the road well into the 1980's. His only down time was in 1977 when he had open heart surgery.
In 1984, Ferlin was signed by MCA who released a video of his called Truck Drivin' Son of a Gun." He then began to build the Wings of a Dove Museum in Hendersonville, Tennessee, which soon became part of Conway Twitty's Twitty City. In 1988, he gave up drinking and started singing inspirational music. ~From a Ferlin Husky Fan-Dedicated Website.

Burning with a strange desire
And I know, each time I kiss you
That your heart's on fire too
So, my darling, please surrender
All your love so warm and tender
Let me hold you in my arms, dear
While the moon shines bright above
All the stars will tell the story
Of our love and all its glory
Let us take this night of magic
And make it a night of love
Won't you please surrender to me
Your lips, your arms, your heart, dear
Be mine forever
Be mine tonight

One Mint Julep - Ray Charles (1961)"One Mint Julep" was a rhythm and blues song written by Rudy Toombs that became a hit for The Clovers in 1952. Toombs was hired by Atlantic Records to write humorous up-tempo rhythm and blues novelty songs. The humor in this song comes in part from the idea of a young black man getting drunk on mint juleps, thought of as an aristocratic southern white woman's drink. In 1961 "One Mint Julep" finally reached a mass audience when Ray Charles's instrumental version reached No. 1 on the R&B charts and also No. 8 on the pop chart. Charles' version, featuring him on the Hammond B-3 organ, was from his 1961 album "Genius + Soul = Jazz". Featuring arrangements by Quincy Jones and Ralph Burns, Charles was accompanied by members of The Count Basie Band. The album was re-issued by Rhino Records in 1997 on a single CD together with Charles' 1970 "My Kind Of Jazz". Ray Charles Robinson (September 23, 1930 -- June 10, 2004), better known by his shortened stage name Ray Charles, was an American musician. He was a pioneer in the genre of soul music during the 1950s by fusing rhythm and blues, gospel, and blues styles into his early recordings. He also helped racially integrate country and pop music during the 1960s with his crossover success. Charles became one of the first African-American musicians to be given artistic control by a mainstream record company. The influences upon his music were mainly jazz, blues, rhythm and blues and country artists of the day such as Art Tatum, Nat King Cole, Louis Jordan, Charles Brown, Louis Armstrong. Rolling Stone magazine ranked Charles number 10 on their list of the 100 Greatest Artists of All Time in 2004, and number two on their November 2008 list of the 100 Greatest Singers of All Time. Adam Wade - Take Good Care Of HerHe may have made TV history as the first black game show host back in the 1970s, but the talents of singer/actor/musician Adam Wade extend far wider. Born Patrick Henry Wade, he grew up in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. In the late 1950s he served as part of the research team for Dr. Jonas Salk who invented the polio vaccine. In 1959, he switched to performing and found in himself a smooth, gifted vocalist, his early influences being Johnny Mathis and Nat 'King' Cole. In 1960 he decided to make the journey to New York and pursue his dream. He signed with CoEd Records within a very short time and scored quickly with a string of mild successes including "Ruby" and "I Can't Help It." He also started traveling as a night-club entertainer playing all over the world and highlighting in such important venues as the Copacobana. The next year (1961) proved to be the peak of his recording success with "Take Good Care of Her," "Writing on the Wall" and "As If I Didn't Know" making the charts. Comparisons to Mathis at CoEd Records, however, damaged his momentum and he looked elsewhere, moving to Epic Records. Only one of his singles, "Crying in the Chapel," broke the "Top 100" charts.
In the late 60s Adam discovered voiceover work and started grooving as an actor. Ben E. King - Stand by meBen E. King - Stand by me
When the night has come, and the land is dark
And the moon is the only light we will see
No, I won't be afraid, oh, I won't be afraid
Just as long as you stand, stand by me
So darlin', darlin' stand by me
Oh stand by me
Oh stand, stand by me, stand by me
If the sky that we look upon should tumble and fall
Or the mountain should crumble to the sea
I won't cry, I won't cry, no, I won't shed a tear
Just as long as you stand, stand by me
And darlin', darlin' stand by me
Oh stand by me
Whoa stand now, stand by me, stand by me
*Solo*
And darlin', darlin' stand by me
Oh stand by me
Oh stand now, stand by me, stand by me
If the sky that we look upon should tumble and fall
Or the mountain should crumble to the sea
I won't cry, I won't cry, no, I won't shed a tear
Just as long as you stand, stand by me
And darlin', darlin' stand by me
Oh stand by me
Whoa stand now, stand by me, stand by me
So darlin', darlin' stand by me
Oh stand by me
Oh stand now, stand by me, stand by me
Whenever you're in trouble won't you stand by me
Oh stand by me
Whoa stand now, oh stand, stand by me...

Ben E King - Spanish HarlemJerry Leiber & Phil Spector wrote Spanish Harlem. Released on the last day of 1960. Got up to #10, #15 R&B chart.
Romeo Penque does the nice touch of sax - a soprano sax (1:50). Out of favor for decades (think Sidney Bechet), the soprano began making a comeback about this time.
Benjamin Earl King (born September 28, 1938), better known as Ben E. King, is an American soul singer. He is perhaps best known as the singer and co-composer of "Stand by Me," a U.S. top 10 hit in both 1961 and 1987 and a #1 hit in the UK in 1987, and as one of the principal lead singers of the R&B vocal group The Drifters.
King was born Benjamin Earl Nelson in Henderson, North Carolina and moved to Harlem, New York City, New York, at the age of nine.
In 1958, he joined a doo wop group called The Five Crowns. Later that year, The Drifters' manager fired the members of the group and replaced them with The Five Crowns, who had performed several engagements with the Drifters. Nelson co-wrote the first hit by the new version of the Drifters, "There Goes My Baby" (1959). He also sang lead, using his birth name, on "Save the Last Dance for Me", a song written by Doc Pomus and Mort Shuman, "Dance With Me", "This Magic Moment", "I Count the Tears" and "Lonely Winds". King only recorded ten songs with The Drifters, including a non-single called "Temptation" which was later redone by Johnny Moore. Ben E. King career was so brief with The Drifters, The Drifters manager George Treadwell never gave Ben E. King a chance to perform with The Drifters on tour or in television. On television , A fellow Drifters member Charlie Thomas usually lip sung the songs that Ben E. King recorded with the Drifters.
In 1960, he left the Drifters after failing to gain a salary increase and what he felt to be a fairer share of the group's royalties. At this point he assumed the more memorable stage name Ben E. King in preparation for a successful solo career. Remaining on Atlantic Records on its Atco imprint, King scored his first solo hit with the ballad "Spanish Harlem" (1961). "Stand by Me" was his next recording. Written by King along with Jerry Leiber and Mike Stoller, "Stand by Me" was voted as one of the Songs of the Century by the Recording Industry Association of America. "Stand by Me", "There Goes My Baby" and "Spanish Harlem" were named as three of The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame's 500 Songs that Shaped Rock and Roll and were all given a Grammy Hall of Fame Award, as well as "Save The Last Dance For Me". His other well known songs were "Don't Play That Song (You Lied)" (which was covered by Aretha Franklin in the 1970s), "Amor", "Seven Letters", "How Can I Forget", "On the Horizon", "Young Boy Blues", "I (Who Have Nothing)", "First Taste of Love", "Here Comes the Night", "Ecstasy", That's When It Hurts , Down Home , River of Tears , Do It in the Name of Love , and It's All Over .
In the summer of 1963, King had a top 30 national hit with "I (Who Have Nothing)", a song that reached the Top 10 on New York's radio station, WMCA. The song has been covered many times, notably by Luther Vandross & Martha Wash, John Lennon, Shirley Bassey, Tom Jones, Sylvester James, U2, Bruce Springsteen, Jedi Mind Tricks, and most recently by American Idol contestant Jordin Sparks, during the March 20, 2007 and May 15, 2007 telecasts. King's records continued to place well on the Billboard Hot 100 chart until 1965. British pop bands began to dominate the pop music scene, but King still continued to make R&B hits and minor Pop hits. King's other hits were "What is Soul?" (1967), "Supernatural Thing, Part 1" (1975), and the re-issue in 1986 of "Stand by Me", following the song's use as the theme song to the movie Stand By Me, and though the song is used numerous times throughout the film, the film itself has nothing to do with Ben E. King or the song.
Throughout his career he has achieved five number one hits, which were "There Goes My Baby", "Save The Last Dance For Me", "Stand By Me", "Supernatural Thing", and the 1986 re-issue of "Stand By Me". He also earned twelve Top 10 hits and Twenty four Top 40 hits, from 1959 to 1986. He has also been inducted to the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame as a Drifters member and nominated for his career as a solo artist but not yet accepted.
Currently, King is active in his charitable foundation, the Stand By Me Foundation. He has been a resident of Teaneck, New Jersey since the late 1960s.
More recently, King performed "Stand By Me" during a televised tribute to late comedian George Carlin, as he was one of Carlin's favorite artists. ~ SOURCE: Wikipedia

Take Five - The Dave Brubeck Quartet (1959)"Take Five" is a jazz piece written by Paul Desmond and performed by The Dave Brubeck Quartet on their 1959 album "Time Out". Recorded at Columbia's 30th Street Studios in New York City on June 25, July 1, and August 18, 1959, this piece became one of the group's best-known records, famous for its distinctive, catchy saxophone melody and use of the unusual quintuple (5/4) time, from which its name is derived. While "Take Five" was not the first jazz composition to use this meter, it was one of the first in the United States to achieve mainstream significance, reaching number five on Billboard's Adult Contemporary Singles chart. "Take Five" was re-recorded and performed live multiple times by The Dave Brubeck Quartet throughout the group's career. In addition, there have been various covers of the piece. "Take Five" has also been included in countless movies and television soundtracks, and still receives significant radio play. Upon his death in 1977, Desmond left the rights to royalties for his performances and compositions, including "Take Five", to the American Red Cross, which has since received combined royalties of approximately $100,000 per year. "Time Out" is a 1959 album by The Dave Brubeck Quartet, based upon the use of time signatures that were unusual for jazz (mainly waltz or double-waltz time, but also 9/8, and most famously 5/4). Although the album was intended as an experiment and received negative reviews by critics upon its release, it became one of the best-known and biggest-selling jazz albums, reaching number two in the U.S. Billboard Pop Albums chart. In 2005, it was one of 50 recordings chosen that year by the Library of Congress to be added to the National Recording Registry. The Dave Brubeck Quartet was a jazz quartet, founded in 1951 by Dave Brubeck and originally featuring Paul Desmond on saxophone and Brubeck on piano. David Warren 'Dave' Brubeck (December 6, 1920 -- December 5, 2012) was an American jazz pianist. He has written a number of jazz standards, including "In Your Own Sweet Way" and "The Duke". Brubeck's style ranged from refined to bombastic, reflecting his mother's attempts at classical training and his improvisational skills. His music was known for employing unusual time signatures, and superimposing contrasting rhythms, meters, and tonalities. Paul Desmond (November 25, 1924 -- May 30, 1977), born Paul Emil Breitenfeld, was a jazz alto saxophonist and composer born in San Francisco, best known for the work he did in The Dave Brubeck Quartet and for penning that group's greatest hit, "Take Five". He was not only one of the most popular musicians to come out of the West Coast's 'cool jazz' scene, but also the possessor of a legendary and idiosyncratic wit. In addition to his work with Brubeck he led several of his own groups and made significant collaborations with artists such as Gerry Mulligan, Jim Hall and Chet Baker. After years of chain smoking and general poor health, Desmond succumbed to lung cancer in 1977 following one last tour with Brubeck. Elvis Presley - Are You Lonesome Tonight w/lyrics»» LYRICS HERE ««
»» LYRICS HERE ««
Are you lonesome tonight,
Do you miss me tonight?
Are you sorry we drifted apart?
Does your memory stray to a brighter sunny day
When I kissed you and called you sweetheart?
Do the chairs in your parlor seem empty and bare?
Do you gaze at your doorstep and picture me there?
Is your heart filled with pain, shall I come back again?
Tell me dear, are you lonesome tonight?
I wonder if youre lonesome tonight
You know someone said that the worlds a stage
And each must play a part.
Fate had me playing in love you as my sweet heart.
Act one was when we met, I loved you at first glance
You read your line so cleverly and never missed a cue
Then came act two, you seemed to change and you acted strange
And why Ill never know.
Honey, you lied when you said you loved me
And I had no cause to doubt you.
But Id rather go on hearing your lies
Than go on living without you.
Now the stage is bare and Im standing there
With emptiness all around
And if you wont come back to me
Then make them bring the curtain down.
Is your heart filled with pain, shall I come back again?
Tell me dear, are you lonesome tonight?

The Four Preps - More Money For You And Me (Original 45 Version)On the early 60s Folk & Pop scenes, there was a proliferation of 'college groups'.
One of the very successful examples of this genre was The Four Preps.
It could be argued that The Four Preps had quite a point of difference, in that they were masters of the satirical lyric and the vocal impersonation.
This track is a perfect example:
It was released in Australia in 1961 on a Capitol 45, CP1446.
The flipside was the Gospel tinged "Swing Down Chariot", which I've also uploaded to YouTube.
This track was a national hit...# 3 in Brisbane, # 4 Sydney, # 4 in Melbourne, # 2 in Adelaide & # 25 in Perth.
This is the original single edit, in glorious mono, uploaded from the original Aussie 45.
