Booka Shade open the New Year on home imprint Blaufield Music as they deliver their latest EP ‘Dear Future Self’ alongside spoken word artist and poet Lazarusman.
As we enter the start of another decade, German producers, live act and label bosses Booka Shade continue remain at the forefront of the melodic house and techno landscape, armed with their ever-evolving live set up, releases via legendary labels including John Digweed’s Bedrock, Suara and their own blossoming Blaufield Music, and stand- out performances at the likes of Amsterdam Dance Event, Brunch In The City, and Boiler Room’s very first Warehouse event in the Middle East at The Grid, Dubai. Having spent the closing half of 2019 at work in the studio and on the road to shape and curate a variety of musical projects, January welcomes the first in a series releases as the duo deliver a medley of original cuts in the form of their ‘Dear Future Self EP’, including a collaboration with South African artist Lazarusman, dropping ahead of a yet to be announced project on the label in the year ahead.
Hypnotic and warping from the off, ‘Dear Future Self’ balances wandering, off-kilter lead synths with refined percussion and Lazarusman’s ever-mesmerising lyrics, with the ‘Club Mix’ mix laying the focus on acid-tinged leads whilst the ‘Extended Mix’ harnesses deeper, soaring textures. Second original ‘Atlantic Beam’ engages rolling, organic percussion amongst sweeping melodies and blossoming stabs to reveal a rich journey through builds and breaks, offering an impressive first glimpse into a much bigger project still yet to come... stay tuned.
